Objectives

Through the youth exchange project Wired Differently, we want to create a safe international space where young people can explore sensitive topics like neurodivergence, mental health, equality, and identity through art, music, storytelling, and nature-based activities. Many participants are themselves neurodivergent or closely connected to these issues, so the project responds to their real-life experiences rather than abstract theories. By addressing these themes through non-formal methods, we aim to make space for expression, reflection, and shared understanding. From a youth work perspective, our objectives are to: Support inclusion and well-being by giving participants tools to express themselves creatively, regulate emotions, and speak openly about challenges such as anxiety, depression, and feeling “different.” Empower youth voices by involving participants not only as learners but also as co-creators of activities, facilitators, and multipliers in their own communities. Strengthen intercultural learning and solidarity by connecting young people from Curaçao, Finland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic—and exploring how culture shapes neurodivergent experiences and mental health support. Enhance youth work practices by testing and sharing non-formal learning methods (e.g., art workshops, music, outdoor learning, storytelling) that can later be adapted by other organisations working with diverse youth. Encourage personal growth by building participants’ confidence, independence, resilience, teamwork, and intercultural communication skills. Foster environmental awareness and well-being by including outdoor sessions and reconnecting participants with nature as a tool for balance and mental health. The project is also designed as the starting point of a longer-term cooperation, with follow-up youth exchanges and continued dissemination ensuring that its results benefit wider communities and future Erasmus+ initiatives.
