Objectives

In recent years, 30% of the EU population has been affected by water scarcity. Southern European countries such as Spain, Greece, and Italy are already suffering from high levels of water stress. In March 2025, Germany recorded its driest month. In Cologne, in April 2025, the Rhine River reached a level of only 1.54 meters, which is half the usual level for that time of year. As for France, experts from the WRI expect a medium to high water stress, corresponding to a consumption rate of 20% to 40% of available resources. The country is pursuing various strategies to tackle water management challenges. These include investing in water-efficient technologies, promoting water conservation practices, and implementing measures to improve water quality. The government is also working to enhance the resilience of water infrastructure to disruptions caused by climate change. The 53 measures of the “Water Plan” published on March 30, 2023, and the decree of August 29, 2023, regarding the use of rainwater and treated wastewater, highlight the crucial importance of water recycling across the French territory. For decades, we did not need to worry about our water security, but the climate crisis is now revealing the reality of poor water management. This project is the joint response of all partner organizations to the reality of climate change and the lack of environmental awareness that young people will have to face in their local communities in the near future. The general objective of this project is to mobilize European youth to address the water crisis affecting several European countries by working collaboratively to promote awareness, education, community action, and the implementation of innovative and sustainable solutions for water management.
