Objectives

With this project, we first want to give young people a strong intercultural experience through music. Many of them have never travelled outside their country or worked with peers from abroad. By organizing joint workshops around Balkan music, we create a setting where they have to cooperate, listen, adapt, and produce something collectively. For youth work, this means placing them in real-life situations where social skills – cooperation, communication, respect for differences – are not abstract, but lived. We also want to strengthen their autonomy and active role. The young people will not just be spectators: they will take part in shaping the programme, present pieces to the public, sometimes lead activities with their peers, and share their experience back in their schools or associations after the project. This is a central aim of youth work: that young people are empowered, take initiative, and discover their ability to take on leadership roles. Another goal is to give them tools for self-recognition and valorisation. Through the learning journal, collective evaluations and the Youthpass, the young people will learn to put words to what they have gained: for example, “I dared to speak English in front of a group” or “I learned to work with musicians from another country.” For youth workers, it is essential that the project is not only a memorable experience, but also a stepping stone, something that strengthens self-confidence and can be used in a CV, in education, or in professional orientation. Finally, we want this project to contribute to broadening their cultural and civic horizons. Discovering the richness of Balkan musical traditions, engaging with peers in a European context, and then transmitting this back into their city or school is a concrete way of embedding them in a dynamic of European citizenship and showing them that they can play an active role in this openness. In short, the objectives of the project are directly linked to youth work: to create collective experiences that help young people grow, to empower them, to build confidence in their skills, and to enable them to become ambassadors of cultural openness and civic participation in their communities.
