Objectives

The youth project “Respect for Culture” aims to strengthen the relationship between Augsburg and Bourges and to make a cultural contribution to the programme of the 2028 European Capital of Culture. With the implementation of this project, we are also pursuing several key objectives that are of particular importance from a youth work perspective and are closely aligned with the priorities of the Erasmus+ programme. 1. Promoting awareness of diversity and pluralism Young people should recognize the importance of a pluralistic society and learn to appreciate cultural differences. Intercultural encounters and joint activities with young people from France and Germany promote respectful interaction with different realities of life. This strengthens social participation and understanding of diversity—a central concern of youth work. 2. Critical examination of racism and discrimination In workshops and reflection sessions, participants examine structural racism, prejudice, and discrimination. The aim is to empower young people to recognize patterns of discrimination and actively promote an inclusive society. 3. Strengthening European citizenship and solidarity The project promotes awareness of common European values and democratic participation. Young people reflect on their role as active citizens of Europe and develop ideas on how they can get involved locally and internationally. They learn about political structures and have initial contact with local stakeholders, through exchanges with local politicians and institutions. 4. Access to mobility and education for disadvantaged young people There is a particular focus on involving young people with fewer opportunities. Through targeted preparation, support, and inclusive methods, they are given the opportunity to gain international experience and strengthen their personal and social skills. 5. Promoting self-efficacy and active participation The project is participatory in nature – from planning and implementation to evaluation. Young people take responsibility for the programme, contribute their own ideas, and experience the impact of their commitment. This strengthens their self-confidence and their ability to take action. 6. Development of key skills through non-formal education The project specifically uses non-formal learning methods to promote skills such as critical thinking, intercultural communication, teamwork, and problem solving. The learning outcomes are made visible and reflected upon through the Youthpass. 7. Integration of sustainability and digital skills Sustainable measures such as resource-efficient mobility and the conscious decision not to use merchandise are being implemented. Digital tools support communication and collaboration before, during, and after the encounters. Through its combination of in-depth content, participatory design, and inclusive implementation, the project makes an effective contribution to empowering young people and further developing youth work in a European context.
