Objectives

The main achievement foreseen by this project is to strengthen the capacity of youth workers to use creative and participatory methods—specifically Playback Theatre—as tools to foster inclusion, empathy, and belonging in their daily practice. The project aims to address the increasing challenges youth workers face when engaging young people with fewer opportunities, including migrants, NEETs, rural youth, and those facing social or cultural exclusion. By introducing and adapting Playback Theatre into youth work, the project equips youth workers with innovative methods that are both accessible and sustainable, ensuring that young people can share their voices, process their experiences, and feel part of a supportive community. The first objective (O1) is to improve the competences of 28 youth workers from seven partner organisations in the use of Playback Theatre and non-formal learning methods. From the youth work perspective, this means moving beyond traditional activities toward creative, story-based practices that strengthen listening, empathy, and group dynamics. Expected results (R1) include youth workers gaining concrete facilitation skills, the ability to adapt artistic methods for disadvantaged groups, and improved confidence in integrating creative tools into their daily programmes. The second objective (O2) is to foster inclusion and diversity in youth work practice. Many youth workers struggle to effectively engage marginalised young people due to limited resources or lack of suitable methods. Playback Theatre provides a safe and flexible format for young people to express themselves and be heard. Through training and practice, youth workers will learn how to design workshops that are accessible to those with fewer opportunities. The result (R2) will be an increased capacity of organisations to reach diverse target groups and a stronger alignment with the Erasmus+ Inclusion and Diversity Strategy. The third objective (O3) is to embed reflective and participatory approaches into youth work. Playback Theatre is not only performance—it is also about listening, reflecting, and building collective meaning. Youth workers will strengthen their competences in reflection methods and integrate Youthpass into their daily work, helping young people become aware of their learning and personal growth. The result (R3) is that youth workers will be able to support young people in developing both personal and social competences such as empathy, communication, and cooperation. The fourth objective (O4) is to promote cross-border cooperation and innovation in youth work organisations. The project involves seven organisations from France, Türkiye, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and Bulgaria, each with different experiences and target groups. By training youth workers together and co-creating a Practical Guide, the project ensures that methods are adapted to different realities and transferable across Europe. The result (R4) will be increased cooperation between organisations, shared resources, and stronger recognition of youth work as a professional and innovative field. Finally, the fifth objective (O5) is to ensure sustainability and long-term impact of competences gained. Each youth worker will implement at least two local workshops after the PDA, ensuring that results are multiplied in local contexts. Organisations will integrate Playback Theatre into their annual work plans, linking project results to their missions of inclusion, creativity, and active participation. The result (R5) will be that new methods are not isolated practices but embedded into youth work strategies, raising the quality, innovation, and recognition of participating organisations.
