The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to environmental pollution, generating massive amounts of waste, exploiting natural resources and labor in production chains. Fast fashion has created a culture of overconsumption, where clothing is waste after minimal use, leading to significant ecological and ethical concerns. Many young people are unaware of the true impact of their fashion choices and the alternatives available to reduce their footprint. By implementing this project, we aim to educate and empower young people from Macedonia, Croatia, Turkey, Spain, Poland, and Latvia to become more conscious consumers and advocates of sustainable fashion. Through engaging non-formal education methods, creative workshops, and public awareness campaigns, we want to shift perspectives on fashion consumption and promote second-hand clothing as a sustainable and impactful alternative. By the end of the project, participants will not only understand the environmental and social costs of the fashion industry but also develop practical skills in upcycling, creative reuse, and awareness-raising actions. The project will encourage them to adopt more responsible consumption habits and inspire their peers to rethink their approach to fashion. Additionally, we want to motivate broader discussions within local communities, showing that second-hand fashion is not just an economic choice but an ethical and sustainable one. The final events, including the fashion flash mob and the "living statues" activity, will serve as impactful public statements, engaging local people and encouraging them to reflect on the wasteful nature of fast fashion. The objectives of the project are: - To raise awareness about the environmental and ethical impact of the fashion industry, educate 36 young participants on how the fashion industry contributes to pollution, extreme resource consumption, and unethical labor practices. - To provide clear insights into the life cycle of clothing, from raw material extraction to retail and disposal, demonstrating the environmental footprint of a single clothing and highlight the negative effects of fast fashion, including textile waste, water pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions, while presenting sustainable alternatives. - To promote second-hand fashion and upcycling as sustainable alternatives by encouraging participants to embrace second-hand clothing as a way to reduce waste and extend the life cycle of clothes through organization of creative upcycling workshops where participants will transform old clothes into new, unique fashion pieces, demonstrating practical ways to repurpose textiles. - To share success stories and examples of sustainable fashion movements and to inspire young people to adopt lasting, conscious shopping habits, develop critical thinking and responsible consumer habits among young people and provide practical tools and strategies for reducing fashion consumption, such as organizing clothing swaps, buying less but higher quality, and learning basic clothing repair techniques. - Encourage active citizenship through creative public engagement - design and implement a public awareness campaign for social media with visual materials (posters and booklet) that explain the benefits of sustainable fashion, encouraging community members to reflect on their consumption choices; and a local fashion flash mob and "living statues" performance in the local city, using second-hand clothing to spark conversations. - Promote European diversity, cooperation, unity among 36 participants from 6 countries. We believe our project will empower participants to become sustainability ambassadors in their own countries by sharing knowledge, organizing similar events, or starting local initiatives that promote eco-friendly fashion practices. Through these objectives, we aim to inspire lasting behavioral changes, equipping young people with knowledge, skills, and motivation to reduce the ecological impact of fashion and advocate for a more sustainable future. The project will result in a prepared booklet on the topic of fashion including tips and tricks to upcycle clothes and extend their life cycle, developed 15 posters on this topic, and implement a local fashion flash mob demonstrating the importance of second hand.
