Objectives

The CREWE project addresses the urgent challenge of rising populism, nationalism, xenophobia, and radicalisation among young people across Europe. Young people are increasingly exposed to divisive narratives, online disinformation, and manipulative rhetoric that undermine democratic values and social cohesion. Youth workers, as trusted figures in the lives of young people, play a crucial role in building resilience, promoting democratic participation, and fostering inclusion. Through this project, we aim to: Strengthen the competences of youth workers in identifying and addressing populist and radicalising narratives in their daily work with young people. Equip youth workers with innovative non-formal education tools and methods to foster critical thinking, media literacy, and democratic dialogue among youth. Empower youth workers to create safe spaces where young people can openly discuss sensitive issues, explore alternative narratives, and develop resilience to extremist influences. Promote intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding among youth workers and young people, counteracting stereotypes and reducing polarisation. Support youth workers in becoming multipliers by developing local action plans and follow-up activities that transfer project outcomes into their communities. Contribute to the sustainability of youth work practice by producing practical resources (toolkit, action plans, Youthpass reflections) that can be used beyond the lifetime of the project. By achieving these objectives, the CRWE project strengthens youth work practice as a frontline response to populism and radicalisation, ensuring that youth workers are not only better prepared to confront these challenges but also empowered to inspire young people to become active, critical, and responsible citizens.
