Objectives

Our project will involve 32 young people aged between 16 and 24, plus 4 group leaders (one per country), making 36 participants in total, drawn from Hungary, Romania, North Macedonia, and the Czech Republic. Participants will be selected such that gender balance is ensured to the maximum possible degree. At least half of these participants will be from Roma communities, as well as participants facing geographic and economic barriers, fostering diversity and social inclusion. These participants face barriers such as social exclusion, geographical isolation, financial hardship, and educational disparities, which makes their participation especially impactful. To ensure these participants can fully engage, we have implemented additional support measures, including mentoring and tailored preparation activities. Four group leaders, one per country, will guide the participants, offering structured support throughout both exchanges. The project’s main objective is to empower young people by providing them with the skills and knowledge necessary to address environmental challenges in their local communities. Through two youth exchanges, the participants will progressively build their understanding of sustainability, leadership, and environmental advocacy. The two exchanges are designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience: ● The first exchange will focus on foundational knowledge about climate change, resource conservation, and sustainable agriculture through interactive workshops and hands-on activities. ● The second exchange will build on this knowledge by focusing on practical action, as participants will refine and implement the community projects developed between the two exchanges. This gap between exchanges is essential for giving participants time to apply what they've learned and return with real-world insights, making the second exchange more action-oriented. The project seeks to create long-term impacts by fostering a deep commitment to environmental sustainability. Participants will not only develop practical skills related to sustainability but will also gain leadership, project management, and digital advocacy skills. A key element of the project is the use of Youthpass to document and reflect on the participants’ learning process. Daily reflections and evaluations will help participants recognize the skills they are acquiring, including critical competences such as teamwork, leadership, and intercultural communication. By documenting these competences through Youthpass, participants will leave with a tangible record of their learning that they can apply in both their educational and professional futures. From a youth work perspective, the project is designed to foster environmental responsibility and active citizenship. The participants will engage in practical activities related to environmental protection, such as community clean-ups, sustainable farming workshops, and climate advocacy campaigns. The program will emphasize not only individual growth but also community engagement, aligning with the Erasmus+ priority of empowering young people to take ownership of sustainability efforts in their local areas. The cross-cultural exchange will also promote mutual understanding as participants collaborate across national borders, sharing best practices and creating lasting networks. Additionally, the project includes a strong digital component. Participants will learn how to use digital platforms and social media to advocate for environmental causes, improving their digital literacy while increasing their ability to engage with their communities on sustainability issues. By leveraging these tools, participants will amplify their impact, ensuring that their work reaches wider audiences even beyond the project. The project’s long-term impact will be supported by the creation of an alumni network, which will provide opportunities for continued collaboration and engagement in sustainability initiatives. This will help ensure that the participants remain active in their efforts to promote environmental awareness and continue leading sustainability projects in their communities well after the exchanges have ended.
