Objectives

The idea of the “Unplug & Reconnect” youth exchange was born from the recognition that digitalization increasingly dominates the lives of today’s young people. Smartphones, social media, and the online world are often useful, but their excessive presence tends to narrow human connections and push aside those experiences that can create genuine community, deeper self-awareness, and long-lasting values. With the implementation of this project, we want participants to consciously experience how rich and diverse the world becomes when they step back from the screen and focus their attention on real human connections, community experiences, and a deeper bond with nature. Our goal is not simply to deprive young people of digital tools. Rather, we want to facilitate a learning process in which they become aware of their own habits and resources, and discover that it is possible to spend meaningful, joyful, and development-oriented time in an offline environment as well. This experience will stay with them even after the project ends and can contribute to a more conscious and balanced lifestyle. From the perspective of youth work, the project aims to create a safe, supportive, and creative environment where young people can learn through their own experiences. We do not want to hand over ready-made knowledge, but instead provide opportunities for participants to discover their own competencies and build new skills together. Through teamwork, shared reflections, and creative tasks, they will develop their communication, cooperation, and problem-solving skills, while also strengthening their self-confidence and initiative. One of the main goals of the project is to experience cultural diversity and strengthen the sense of community. Participants come from different countries and social backgrounds, and during their shared work they will not only form new friendships but also learn to respect and appreciate each other’s cultures, customs, and lifestyles. This experience contributes in the long run to strengthening the European identity, as well as fostering openness and tolerance. In the practice of youth work, it is of particular importance that young people experience that differences do not separate us but rather enrich the community. Another important aim of the program is to bring young people closer to nature and to a sustainable lifestyle. During the exchange, eco-friendly practices, ways to reduce the ecological footprint, and green solutions transferable to everyday life will play a prominent role. Young people will not only hear about these in theory but will also gain hands-on experience of how to implement shared activities in a sustainable way, whether in waste reduction, energy saving, or outdoor programs in nature. In this way, we contribute to ensuring that the impact of the project goes beyond the duration of the exchange and that participants also apply what they learned in their own environments. A central element of the project is encouraging young people to reflect on their own relationship with the digital world. How does social media affect their everyday lives? How well are they able to pay attention to themselves and to others? What alternatives do they find for stress management and relaxation? Together they will search for answers to these questions, and through self-reflection exercises they will learn to recognize their strengths and areas for improvement. This process directly contributes to building a stronger self-confidence and to shaping their future with greater awareness. In line with the Erasmus+ program, the project seeks to develop specific competencies. These include improving communication and foreign language skills, fostering creative thinking and problem-solving, encouraging the conscious and critical use of digital competence, strengthening social and cultural awareness, as well as enhancing participation and active citizenship. The young people will not only be observers but active shapers of the processes: they can integrate their own ideas into the program, take part in documentation and dissemination, and thereby experience what it feels like to be responsible participants of a joint international project. Our goal is for participants to take home all the knowledge, experiences, and inspiration they gained here and to integrate them into their daily lives. In this way, the project can help young people use digital tools more consciously, become more active in their own communities, and carry forward the message of sustainability and community building with greater awareness. The aim of the project is therefore both personal and collective: through their own development, participants contribute to the formation of a more open, responsible, and conscious young generation. From the perspective of youth work, “Unplug & Reconnect” is a complex process that combines self-awareness, competence development, international dialogue, and sustainable thinking.
