Air pollution is one of the greatest environmental and health challenges facing young people in Europe today. Its effects are visible in daily life—on health, on the environment, and on the quality of life in both cities and rural areas. Yet for many young people, this topic is presented only in a theoretical way, with little opportunity to connect knowledge with action. The idea for this project was born out of conversations with local youth who expressed frustration: they care about climate change and air quality but feel powerless and uninformed about how they can contribute. This showed us a clear need to create a space where young people can learn, practice, and take responsibility together, using non-formal education and youth work methods. By combining environmental awareness with intercultural learning, the project aims to respond directly to these needs and to turn concern into concrete action. Our project objectives are: – Equip participants with knowledge on causes, effects, and solutions of air pollution, connected to hands-on monitoring of air quality in Nyiregyhaza and workshops with experts. – Foster collaboration among diverse youth by using non-formal tools such as role play, world café, and intercultural theatre, where participants compare experiences and build common strategies. – Promote eco-friendly behaviours through practical challenges like zero-waste cooking, upcycling workshops, and sustainable living simulations. – Develop advocacy skills by guiding participants to design digital campaigns and simulate youth councils, preparing them to talk with local decision makers. – Ensure sustainability by supporting each participant to design a follow-up action plan for their community, such as clean-up drives, awareness workshops, or school presentations. – Strengthen intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding by creating a safe environment for sharing personal experiences and exploring common European values. – Enhance participants’ digital competence through the use of innovative tools for air quality monitoring, data visualisation, and online campaigning. – Provide young people with direct experience of Erasmus+ as a space for learning, mobility, and future opportunities, helping them to recognise how this programme can support their personal and professional development. By implementing this project, we want to show that youth work can be a bridge between knowledge and action. We aim to empower young people not only to understand the challenges of air pollution but to actively contribute to solutions in their own communities. The exchange will be a turning point where participants discover that they have the skills, creativity, and voice to influence change. With the support of Erasmus+, this project can transform individual motivation into collective action, proving that when young people come together across borders, they are capable of creating a healthier, more sustainable, and more united Europe.
