The Youth Workers Re: charged project aims to strengthen the emotional and professional well-being of youth workers across Europe, while also improving the quality, sustainability, and recognition of youth work as a professional practice. It was created in response to the growing need to prevent burnout among those working with vulnerable young people — including migrants, youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, and the post-pandemic generation. The needs identified during the project's preparation include high levels of stress and emotional pressure among staff, a lack of systematic psychological support programs, difficulties in staff retention and motivation, and limited access to effective self-regulation and recovery tools. Moreover, partner organisations from Ireland, Serbia, Belgium, Spain, Bulgaria, Portugal, and Croatia have expressed the need to implement sustainable team-care practices and to exchange effective methodologies through intercultural cooperation. The project offers comprehensive, hands-on training in the following areas: understanding the nature and manifestations of professional burnout; personal diagnostics and self-assessment; psycho-emotional and physical mechanisms of stress; tools for rapid recovery such as breathing techniques, somatic exercises, mindfulness, and art therapy; developing resilience through body awareness, emotional intelligence, and personal meaning; and building a personal anti-burnout strategy. Additionally, a dedicated module will focus on motivating young people to engage in youth clubs, building sustainable communities, and working with intrinsic motivation. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project has the following key objectives: To equip youth workers with practical tools and methods for preventing burnout and enhancing emotional resilience, enabling them to care for themselves while also supporting others without reaching exhaustion. To develop the ability for self-reflection, reevaluation of motivation, and internal resilience, allowing participants to reconnect with their professional mission and rediscover a more profound sense of purpose in their work. To create a safe and supportive environment for intercultural exchange, peer learning, and professional growth. To integrate sustainable well-being practices into the daily operations of youth organisations, such as regular feedback mechanisms, peer support meetings, and reflective practices within youth teams. To enhance the recognition of youth work as a socially valuable, sustainable, and professionally meaningful field. In this way, Youth Workers Re: charged becomes more than just a training event — it serves as a valid point of recovery and growth for youth workers. It offers participants the time and tools to reflect, recover, and re-energise, provides a platform for European-level dialogue, and drives long-term improvements in the approaches and quality of youth work at local, national, and international levels.
