Objectives

The project responds to the rising level of stress, anxiety and depression among both our young people and our youth workers. Reasons for this are varied and complex including the pandemic, social inequalities and uncertainty. Youth workers are often front line but lack adequate training, tools and networks. The objective of this project is equip youth workers with practical tools to support young peoples mental health. This will be done with the delivery of 2 evidence based courses over the training days ie. Mental Health First Aid and Decider Skills Training. These skills will also enhance the wellbeing and resilience of the youth workers themselves. The programs will help youth workers to : - Identify early warning signs for young people suffering with anxiety, depression, substance misuse and psychosis - Learn ways to respond to the above appropriately - Identify signs of a mental health crisis for a young person or each other - Learn skills in emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness that they can teach to young people
