Objectives

In a time when peace in Europe is increasingly fragile, young people face a complex web of challenges that deeply affect their well-being, relationships, and sense of belonging. Many experience high levels of stress, anxiety, and disconnection, worsened by youth unemployment, the housing crisis, and the lingering psychological effects of the pandemic. This erosion of inner peace makes it harder to build empathy and trust, especially across cultural, social, or ideological divides. At the interpersonal level, young people often struggle to form meaningful connections in an increasingly polarized and fragmented society. Social peace is further undermined by misinformation, discrimination, and the weakening of civic spaces for dialogue and cooperation. Globally, conflicts such as the war in Ukraine and the crisis in Gaza amplify feelings of fear and helplessness, making peace seem distant or unattainable. At the same time, young people across Europe express a strong desire to engage, creatively, socially, and politically, but lack inclusive and accessible spaces to reflect, express themselves, and connect with others. This is especially true for youth with fewer opportunities, who are often excluded from international or intercultural learning experiences. In this context, photography emerges as a powerful educational tool: a universal language that transcends words, fosters emotional expression, and stimulates dialogue. Pics 4 Peace was created to respond to these realities. It aims to guide young people through a journey of self-exploration and intercultural learning, using photography to understand and express what peace means at personal, social, and global levels. Through reflection, teamwork, and creative storytelling, participants will explore how peace can be built within themselves, in relationships, in their communities, and across borders. The project promotes youth voice, emotional literacy, empathy, and visual storytelling as essential competences for active, peaceful citizenship, creating space not only to learn, but to be seen, heard, and celebrated. Objectives: -Foster intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding, bringing together youth from five countries to collaborate and experience diversity as a foundation for peaceful coexistence. -Explore the concept of peace at personal, interpersonal, social, and global levels, guiding participants to reflect, share experiences, and transform insights into creative outputs. -Develop personal, social, and creative competences, including self‑awareness, empathy, teamwork, communication, and critical thinking. -Promote photography as a tool for self‑expression, storytelling, and non‑formal learning, enabling participants to capture and communicate meaningful messages visually. -Raise awareness about peace and inspire active citizenship, as participants present their photo‑stories in public exhibitions, engaging local communities and giving visibility to youth voices.
