With the project “Blue Generation: Young Guardians of the Mediterranean” we aim to strengthen the role of young people as active protagonists in environmental protection and sustainability in the Mediterranean Sea, starting from concrete non-formal education practices typical of youth work. The main objectives are: - Promote environmental awareness among young people through practical experiences (coastal clean-ups, citizen science, creative recycling workshops) that allow them to understand the impact of climate change and marine pollution. - Develop green and transferable competences: young people will acquire sustainable habits as well as leadership, communication and teamwork skills, essential to act as multipliers in their local communities. - Foster empowerment and active citizenship, by creating spaces where participants can propose solutions, draft common commitments (the Mediterranean Youth Blue Charter), and engage in dialogue with local authorities and stakeholders. - Ensure inclusion and equal opportunities, with special attention to young people with fewer opportunities from rural and coastal areas, who often have limited access to international mobility experiences. - Connect wellbeing and nature, through outdoor activities that reinforce not only environmental knowledge, but also mental health, autonomy and the ability to live and work in intercultural communities. From a youth work perspective, the project provides a safe and stimulating space where young people become the protagonists of their own learning path. Youth workers will act as facilitators, encouraging self-organisation, international cooperation and structured reflection on learning outcomes through Youthpass. In short, the project goes beyond awareness-raising: it aims to train a new generation of young guardians of the Mediterranean, capable of acting concretely for sustainability and spreading these values within their communities.
