The project was designed in response to a pressing European need to support young people, particularly those not in education, employment or training (NEETs), in addressing their growing fears and uncertainties about the future. Across Europe, young people are confronted with rapid technological change, environmental challenges, international conflicts, and economic instability, all of which fuel anxiety about their life paths. Many feel pressure to make significant decisions before they have had the opportunity to fully explore their passions and abilities. In this context, Erasmus+ and non-formal education provide a crucial space for reflection, empowerment and the development of competences, helping young people to face the future with confidence and optimism. The project is centred on an innovative role-playing methodology. Participants immerse themselves in a post-apocalyptic scenario, where they are challenged to imagine how a future society can be rebuilt and what their personal contribution within it might look like. Through this creative approach, young people explore complex themes such as environmental sustainability, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and international conflicts. The role-play not only allows them to experiment with decision-making in a safe environment, but also serves as a powerful tool for developing key competences and creativity, encouraging them to see themselves as proactive actors of change. One of the core objectives is to provide 25 NEETs and 5 group leaders with a shared space where they imagine a future society and their place within it. This objective is not limited to a simple reflection on possible roles but encourages a deeper understanding of how personal skills, values and aspirations intersect with the needs of society. The process helps participants to become more self-aware, to articulate their ambitions more clearly, and to start seeing their future not as a source of fear but as an opportunity to take responsibility and shape their own path. Another important goal is to strengthen participants’ competences and knowledge in three key areas: the environment, digital transformation, and international conflicts. These themes reflect challenges that are central to the future of Europe and its citizens. By engaging with them through interactive activities, debates, and creative workshops, young people acquire knowledge and develop the ability to think critically, problem-solve and apply innovative approaches. This equips them with skills that are transferable to both their personal lives and future career paths, enhancing their resilience and employability. The project also creates a long-term learning path that extends beyond the duration of the youth exchange. By offering continuous mentorship, resources, and opportunities for engagement, participants are encouraged to pursue further personal and professional development. This lifelong learning perspective ensures that the impact of the project does not end when the mobility finishes but remains as a lasting resource for participants, helping them to maintain motivation, strengthen competences, and make informed decisions about their future. At the organisational level, the project consolidates the skills of the partner organisations in working with NEETs. By exchanging practices, methodologies, and resources, the partners enhance their ability to support disadvantaged young people more effectively. This not only strengthens their own capacity but also improves the quality and inclusiveness of youth work at a European level, creating a long-term legacy that benefits other groups of young people in similar situations. A further key output is the creation of a manual based on the role-playing methodology. This resource is designed as a practical and adaptable tool for youth organisations, educators and trainers who wish to use role-play to inspire young people to reflect on their role in society. The manual includes guidance on how to adapt the methodology to different contexts, ensuring its relevance and usability across Europe. By producing this manual, the project provides a tangible, transferable result that can benefit a wide range of organisations and communities. Finally, the project is committed to promoting European programmes and a strong sense of European identity among participants. Through engagement with Erasmus+ values and opportunities, young people gain awareness of how European cooperation can respond to common challenges and support their personal growth. By reinforcing pro-European sentiment, the project contributes to building a generation of active citizens who are ready to engage in civic life, embrace diversity, and work towards a more inclusive, sustainable and united Europe.
