One afternoon during a local youth meeting in Italy, a 17-year-old participant stood up and quietly said, “I feel like I’m drowning, but smiling in front of everyone.” This one sentence stayed with us. It was raw, honest, and painfully familiar to the other young people in the room. That moment sparked something bigger, a transnational discussion across our partner networks in Turkey, Ireland, Spain, Finland, and Portugal. During the planning phase, we held several online youth-led sessions where participants opened up about shared feelings of anxiety, emotional exhaustion, social pressure, and the invisible weight of “having it all together.” It became clear that the problem wasn’t only individual, it was deeply structural, and deeply European. Modern Divine Comedy was born, designed not as a top-down intervention, but as a youth-led journey of emotional intelligence, resilience, and personal development. The main aim of the project is to support young people in understanding and navigating their emotional struggles while developing tools for healing and self-awareness. What sets this initiative apart is its creative approach, where youth are participants and also designers, facilitators, and storytellers of their own emotional journeys. Our objectives are: – To enable youth to identify and express their emotional challenges through creative methods such as poetry, visual art, and performance; – To promote emotional well-being through mindfulness activities and structured peer-sharing circles; – To build positive habits, goal-setting skills, and resilience through interactive non-formal workshops; – To support intercultural dialogue and empathy through collaborative learning with peers from diverse European backgrounds.
