Objectives

Seven Notes, One Peace (SNOP) is a project designed to give young people aged 18 to 25 from different countries the opportunity to reflect on and share, through music and creative expression, the impact that armed conflicts – particularly the war in Ukraine and other violent crises – have on daily life, both at a personal and social level. Every generation has to confront its own “war,” even without being directly involved. This was the case for young people growing up in the 1980s and 1990s, witnesses of conflicts such as the wars in the former Yugoslavia, Iraq, and Afghanistan, as well as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Today, events such as the war in Ukraine and the ongoing violence in Palestine not only shape geopolitical realities but also have profound emotional consequences. Questioning the reasons behind conflicts inevitably leads young people to reflect on human nature, relationships with others, and the role of institutions. The project identifies two interrelated dimensions: the private, where individuals process fears, emotions, and hopes, and the public, which concerns social and political relations. Its main aim is to create dialogue among young artists and musicians on the theme of peace, offering them a safe and creative space to express their frustrations, aspirations, and visions for the future. The central element of this process will be the collective creation of a music album, allowing participants to share their perspective on what they are experiencing today and on the world they wish to see tomorrow. The theme builds on the previous project Music Uniting Soulmates in Covid-19 Aftermath, which gave young people a voice during the pandemic and focused on equality, solidarity, and social cohesion. These themes remain highly relevant in the current context of war and violence, as they have been for past and present generations, inspiring art, music, and collective reflection. SNOP therefore seeks to engage young people with complex issues such as war, peace, freedom, and democracy, equipping them with creative and critical tools to take a stand against injustice and contribute to building more inclusive societies. Music, as a universal language, will serve as the main vehicle for spreading messages of harmony, friendship, and rejection of violence as a means of resolving conflict. The project aims to create an artistic space that encourages young people to reflect on today’s world, the fears and challenges brought by rising authoritarianism, the tensions between democracy and power, and the choice between non-violence and war. Through exchange and collaboration, participants will develop stronger critical awareness and reinforce their civic engagement. Main objectives of the project: To promote debate among young people on peace, encouraging critical thinking, intercultural dialogue, and creative expression as tools for reflection. This will be achieved through jam sessions, songwriting workshops, music-mediated debates, concerts, and recording sessions. To encourage the exchange of experiences, ideas, and opinions among young people from diverse cultural backgrounds, using music as a common and universal language. To spread a message of solidarity, mutual understanding, friendship, European values, and human rights both among participants and towards a wider audience. This message will be embodied in the composition and recording of an album of 10 original songs, which will be performed at two dissemination concerts and distributed online to maximize its impact. Through this journey, Seven Notes, One Peace will enable young people to transform their individual sensitivities and collective experiences into a universal message of peace, helping to build a future founded on understanding, respect, and cooperation among peoples.
