The Gaming For Youth project is an innovative Erasmus+ Youth Exchange designed to empower young Europeans by transforming a popular pastime—video games—into a powerful tool for communication and active citizenship. Many young people possess strong values and great ideas for their communities but often lack effective tools to communicate them to local peers and government. Traditional methods can feel disconnected or difficult to navigate. Our project addresses this by leveraging the innate interactivity and widespread appeal of video games. Instead of just playing, participants will learn how to create simple, playable games as a fresh, engaging, and highly sharable way to express their values and ideas about society. The project will set up a friendly, non-formal learning environment with three main goals: Enhance Storytelling & Communication: Participants will work with experts to strengthen their abilities in effective communication and narrative design. Learn Game Creation: Participants will become familiar with easy-to-use, low-tech game creation platforms, making the process accessible to everyone regardless of prior technical skills. Produce Meaningful Games: Participants will create small, shareable games that communicate their personal values and societal ideals (e.g., on topics like sustainability, human rights, or mental health). Implemented as an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange, the project is multicultural, supports the European Youth Strategy, and aligns with the program’s goals to: Boost Employability: Storytelling and game design skills are directly applicable across many modern, digitally-focused jobs. Foster Active Citizenship: Participants will use their creations to promote positive behaviors and social engagement within their local communities. Promote Sustainability and Inclusion: The project incorporates a low-impact food/accommodation approach and focuses on equality in participant selection. The methods are specifically designed to be inclusive and accessible to young people with fewer opportunities. By making game creation a mainstream communication tool, Gaming For Youth champions digital literacy, alternative participation, and digital youth work for a more engaged and communicative generation.
