Objectives

The project LIGHT – Learning Inclusion & Green Heritage through Technology aims to empower young people to become active changemakers who combine digital innovation, social inclusion, and sustainability in their daily lives and communities. From a youth work perspective, the project seeks to create a transformative learning journey where 32 participants gain competences, attitudes, and practical tools to foster environmental responsibility, cultural awareness, and inclusive digital practices. LIGHT promotes inclusive youth participation in the green and digital transitions by connecting European heritage, technological skills, and community action. Through a 7-day Youth Exchange, the project supports young people in developing the competences necessary to address the triple challenge of ecological sustainability, digital transformation, and social cohesion. Specific Objectives: The LIGHT’s project objectives have been carefully designed according to the SMART framework (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) and reflect the realities of youth work across the partner countries: Increase awareness and understanding of European green heritage and sustainable practices among 27 young participants within 7 days of mobility. Youth Work Relevance: Non-formal methods such as storytelling, visual mapping, and intercultural dialogue help young people explore how cultural heritage can inspire climate action and responsible consumption. Enhance digital competences and media literacy of all 32 participants, enabling them to design and disseminate at least four youth-led campaigns by the end of the project. Youth Work Relevance: Digital tools (collaborative platforms, social media campaigns, video production) are integrated into workshops to strengthen creativity, online safety, and responsible communication. Empower youth with fewer opportunities (minimum 10 participants) by providing tailored mentoring, accessible materials, and leadership roles, ensuring that at least 80% report improved confidence and inclusion by the end of the exchange. Youth Work Relevance: Youth workers apply inclusive facilitation techniques, peer mentoring, and flexible learning approaches to remove participation barriers. Build sustainable youth-led networks by establishing Youth Heritage Boards in each partner country within 3 months after the exchange. Youth Work Relevance: These networks encourage ongoing peer learning, promote Erasmus+ opportunities, and enable young people to replicate non-formal education methods in local schools, NGOs, and youth clubs. Strengthen organisational capacity and youth work practices across the partner NGOs by co-creating a Digital Heritage Toolkit with tested non-formal methods and campaign templates to be reused in at least four future projects within one year. LIGHT responds to key needs identified in partner communities: a lack of practical opportunities for young people to connect digital innovation with environmental action, and a scarcity of inclusive spaces where diverse youth can co-create solutions. The project uses the full potential of non-formal education (NFE), experiential learning, peer-to-peer exchange, creative expression, and daily reflection—to create a safe environment where young people can test ideas, learn from mistakes, and develop agency. Throughout the project cycle, participants are not passive beneficiaries but co-creators: They take part in planning and preparation (online meetings, local research, content creation). They assume active roles during the exchange (facilitating games, documenting learning, co-leading workshops). They engage in follow-up actions (local campaigns, dissemination events, and preparation of future Erasmus+ proposals). This participatory approach ensures that the objectives are not only achieved but also internalised, strengthening the participants’ capacity to act as multipliers of inclusion, sustainability, and digital literacy in their communities. Long-Term Perspective: By linking green heritage, digital storytelling, and social inclusion, LIGHT creates a replicable youth work model that encourages organisations to combine cultural identity with environmental responsibility. The project contributes to the Erasmus+ objectives of promoting active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, and lifelong learning, while providing young people with the competences and motivation to continue their engagement in future Erasmus+ opportunities, community projects, and local activism.
