With BYOD – Bring Your Own Difference we want to turn young people’s climate awareness into practical, safe and inclusive action. In a non-formal learning setting, participants experience from the inside how an effective civic initiative is built: they analyse real local needs, engage with decision-makers and communities, communicate responsibly on climate issues, build alliances and measure results. The project’s pedagogy is embedded in the title: each person brings their own “difference”—skills, lived experiences, barriers—and the group learns to turn it into a resource rather than an obstacle. Our objectives are clear and measurable. First, to strengthen transversal competences essential for activism (teamwork, negotiation, critical thinking, conflict management, public speaking), connected to applied green skills (waste reduction, sustainable mobility, mindful energy use). Second, to boost active citizenship through safe & legal advocacy tools (understanding local/EU decision processes, simulating civic assemblies, drafting proposals, ethics of participation). Third, to raise the quality of youth work within partner organisations by introducing shared standards on inclusion, wellbeing, safety and learning recognition with Youthpass. Fourth, to lower barriers for young people with fewer opportunities through concrete support (educational accompaniment, accessible logistics, clear multilingual materials). From a youth work angle, the method blends experiential learning, daily reflection and co-decision. Young people co-design the programme, define success criteria, curate communication and dissemination, draft the Climate Action Plans, and organise the final public event. By the end, each participant will have built a competence portfolio (Youthpass) with tangible evidence that can be transferred back home (schools, associations, informal groups). The key outcome is not merely “knowing more about climate”—it is being able to make a difference: identifying a problem, convening the right people, proposing realistic solutions and communicating them responsibly.
