The “Breaking Barriers” project is designed to address the growing challenges faced by marginalized youth, particularly displaced young people and ethnic minorities, as they navigate social isolation and integration in new countries. These young people, often affected by wars, regional conflicts, or long-standing social exclusion, struggle to connect with their peers in host communities, where opportunities for meaningful interaction are limited. Prejudices and stereotypes held by native youth further deepen this isolation, creating barriers to social inclusion. One clear example of this situation is the Albanian minority community, which exists in several partner regions. Although Albanians represent a vibrant cultural group, they frequently face prejudice and limited opportunities to engage with peers from majority populations. Their experience illustrates the broader need to build bridges between different communities and ensure that minority youth are not left behind. At the same time, many native young people lack awareness and understanding of the realities faced by marginalized groups. This disconnect perpetuates stereotypes, fuels discrimination, and hinders social cohesion. Without structured opportunities for positive interaction, divisions between groups can intensify, sometimes leading to polarization or even radicalization. Our project aims to directly confront these issues by creating a space for marginalized and native youth to come together, break down stereotypes, and develop mutual understanding. Through non-formal learning methods, such as Forum Theatre, participants will engage in dialogue, self-reflection, and creative expression. This approach will help them appreciate diversity, challenge prejudices, and build empathy, fostering a sense of solidarity and social inclusion. Objectives: Increase Awareness of Marginalized Groups: Raise awareness about the challenges faced by marginalized and displaced youth, including minorities such as the Albanian community, promoting greater understanding among native young people. Create a Safe, Inclusive Space for Cultural Exchange: Provide a platform where youth from diverse backgrounds can engage in meaningful dialogue, share experiences, and build cultural awareness. Promote European Values and Citizenship: Foster European values of inclusion, diversity, and solidarity, while promoting active European citizenship among participants. Break Stereotypes and Reduce Prejudices: Actively challenge stereotypes and prejudices held by native youth toward marginalized groups. Prevent Radicalization through Integration: Support the integration of marginalized youth into their new communities, helping to prevent the isolation and exclusion that can lead to radicalization. Enhance Youth Creativity through Theatre and Art: Use creative methods, such as theatre and sport, to bring youth together, allowing them to explore their differences and similarities through artistic expression, fostering unity and empathy. This project will contribute to building a more inclusive and empathetic youth community across Europe by addressing the key issues of prejudice, social exclusion, and cultural misunderstanding. Participants will leave the project with enhanced cultural awareness, stronger communication skills, and a commitment to promoting social inclusion in their own communities.
