“In Which Sense? Let's talk about it.” aims to empower young people with knowledge, skills, and confidence to navigate relationships and sexuality in a healthy, respectful, and informed way. By implementing this project, we want to create a safe and inclusive space where young people can explore and discuss topics related to sexuality, relationships, and identity through non-formal education methods. This project comes from the experience gained through "Birds and Bees," a strategic partnership funded by Erasmus+ KA2 finished in 2023. This initiative involved organizations from Slovenia, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and Italy, working together to develop innovative educational tools for sexuality and relationship education in youth work field. Over a two-year period, this collaboration resulted in the creation of a non-formal education methodology that integrates creative learning approaches such as games, arts, music, and interactive discussions. The group of young people from Italy and Slovenia, involved in the Birds&Bees local activities experience were pushing Madiba and Zavod Ambitia to implement a youth exchange on this topic. From a youth work perspective, the project seeks to equip both young participants and youth workers with tools and methodologies that enhance their capacity to address topics like relationships, emotions and identity in a non-judgmental and inclusive manner. Objectives 1. Promote a safer and more inclusive learning environment: foster a non-judgmental space where young people feel comfortable discussing sexuality and relationships. Develop open dialogue abilities, allowing participants to express concerns, ask questions, and challenge misinformation. Decrease stigma, discrimination, and taboos by integrating diverse perspectives on sexuality and relationships. 2. Strengthen emotional intelligence and relational skills: equip young people with tools to understand and navigate interpersonal relationships in a respectful and healthy way. Develop communication and conflict resolution skills, essential for building positive relationships. Facilitate self-reflection and personal growth, helping participants understand their own boundaries, values, and emotions. 3. Develop critical thinking and media literacy: encourage participants to critically assess online content related to sexuality, relationships, and body image. Raise awareness about the impact of social media, stereotypes, and cultural expectations on self-perception and relationships. Provide tools for navigating misinformation and promoting informed decision-making. 4. Strengthen intercultural dialogue and diversity awareness: promoting mutual respect and understanding, by exploring different cultural perspectives on sexuality and relationships. Foster a peer-to-peer learning environment, where participants can share experiences and learn from each other. Increase knowledge on topics such as gender roles, sexual orientation, and identity in different cultural contexts. 5. Empower youth workers with innovative tools and practical methods: equip youth workers with tools to better facilitate discussions on sensitive topics using non-formal education methods, based on the experience of Birds&Bees project(www.birds-bees.eu). Provide practical resources, such as the Q! Quality Mobility App and the Handbook - Quality in Learning Mobility, for structured monitoring and evaluation. Strengthen youth workers’ competencies in creating safe spaces, facilitating discussions, and handling challenging situations. 6. Encourage long-term engagement and dissemination: equip participants with the skills to share their learning in their communities through peer education and local initiatives. Inspire young people to become advocates for inclusive and science-based sexuality education. Build a network of youth workers and organizations committed to improving sexuality and relationship education across Europe. Through these objectives, “In Which Sense?” aligns with Erasmus+ priorities in youth participation, social inclusion, and intercultural learning, while reinforcing the role of youth organizations in addressing critical social issues. By strengthening youth work practice, the project will contribute to sustainable and meaningful improvements in sexuality and relationship education across different European contexts. By carrying out this project, Madiba and its partners aim to contribute to a broader European effort to provide young people with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate relationships and sexuality in a positive and informed way, in alignment with UNESCO’s international technical guidance on sexuality education. The “In Which Sense?” project is not just a temporary initiative; it is an important stone towards systemic change in how sexuality, relationships, and emotional intelligence are addressed in youth work.
