The project “From Digital Overload to Youth Empowerment: Methods for Youth Workers” was born from the urgent need to address one of the most pressing challenges in youth work today: social media addiction and its negative impact on young people’s psychosocial well-being. Youth workers increasingly find themselves dealing with young people experiencing anxiety, isolation, sleep disorders, and relational difficulties linked to excessive digital use. However, as highlighted by international surveys and exchanges, they still lack practical tools and structured methodologies to effectively and holistically address these issues. Through this Training Course, we aim to fill this training gap by equipping youth workers with knowledge, skills, and replicable tools to support young people in developing more balanced and mindful lifestyles. The main goal is to strengthen the quality of socio-educational practices by integrating media literacy, outdoor experiential activities, and mindfulness techniques into an innovative and interdisciplinary approach. The specific objectives of the project are: - To train youth workers to design interactive workshops and media literacy pathways that help young people develop critical thinking, recognize unhealthy digital habits, and adopt strategies to reduce their time online. - To provide youth workers with tools to integrate mindfulness practices and nature-based experiential activities into their educational offers, thus providing concrete alternatives to screen time. These methodologies will help young people strengthen resilience, stress management, and emotional balance, while also creating inclusive and welcoming spaces, especially for those facing disadvantage or vulnerability. - To integrate innovative approaches into socio-educational work by overcoming the fragmentation of competences (media literacy, outdoor education, mindfulness) through the creation of an integrated methodological toolkit, easily adaptable to different local contexts. This will allow youth workers to design multidimensional activities that better respond to the complex needs of new generations. - To foster international cooperation and the exchange of good practices through the creation of a transnational network of youth workers and organizations that share experiences, develop common methodologies, and disseminate effective strategies at the European level. Peer learning and the co-creation of action plans will enable long-term collaboration and the establishment of a professional community of reference on digital well-being. - To enhance direct contact with nature as an educational resource and transformative experience, capable not only of reducing dependency on devices but also of fostering in young people a healthier relationship with their environment and greater ecological awareness. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project seeks to strengthen the capacity of youth workers to address a widespread and tangible challenge, making educational activities more relevant, inclusive, and impactful. At the end of the course, youth workers will be able to design and deliver replicable workshops and activities in their own contexts, supporting young people in: - reducing screen time, - managing stress and emotions, - experiencing meaningful real-life social interactions, - developing a healthier balance between online and offline life. The project aims to lay the foundations for a solid and sustainable European network of educational practices, able to respond to the real needs of young people and support their growth as conscious, resilient, and active citizens.
