Youth workers play an essential role in contributing to the achievement of the strategic objectives set out by the European Union, such as sustainable growth, social cohesion, and the transition to a green economy, in line with the 2030 Agenda. In particular, through their work with young people, youth workers can promote values such as inclusion, innovation, and active participation, with a lasting impact on society and on the organizations in which they operate. The project aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of youth work by using two innovative approaches: educational live action role-playing games (Edu-LARP) and outdoor activities. These approaches respond to two fundamental needs: making non-formal education (NFE) more engaging and effective, and enhancing the potential of natural environments as educational contexts. Project Objectives: Obj. 1: Train youth workers in the use of live action role-playing games (LARP) in natural contexts. The project seeks to provide youth workers with the skills needed to use Live Action Role-Playing Games in their activities, making the best use of natural environments. The use of role-playing games has been shown to increase participants’ motivation and engagement, as well as their sense of competence, while fostering experiential learning (Bowman, 2014). The project will enable youth workers to understand the key principles of LARP and to experiment with its practical applications. Obj. 2: Develop skills for creating educational tools through LARP. Youth workers will be trained not only in the use of existing games but also in the development of new edu-LARPs that make use of game mechanics. This will allow them to tailor activities to the specific needs of target groups, thereby improving the effectiveness of their educational work. The ability to create and adapt edu-LARPs will be a key competence acquired by the project participants. Obj. 3: Strengthen youth workers’ ability to raise awareness of key environmental issues through outdoor activities. The natural environment offers an ideal context to promote environmental awareness and foster youth engagement. Youth workers will learn to actively use the natural setting to enhance NFE activities, strengthening participants’ sense of connection with nature and encouraging critical reflection on global environmental challenges. The activities will also aim to build awareness of sustainable practices, in line with the EU’s priorities for climate and the environment. Obj. 4: Reinforce organizational capacities and the network of collaborations among participants. The project also seeks to strengthen the organizational skills of the participating organizations, fostering the sharing of good practices among partners. Through transnational cooperation activities, youth workers will acquire new skills in project coordination and management, improving the quality and effectiveness of future initiatives. Furthermore, the project will provide a unique opportunity to expand the network of contacts among the participating organizations, encouraging new collaborations in the field of youth work and education. In particular, for ASNU this is the second KA153 training. A significant improvement in internal organizational capacity is expected, both in terms of logistics and management, achieved through the implementation of the project itself as well as through the exchange of support and good practices with partner organizations.
