In recent years, the use of tools based on generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) by young people has grown exponentially: chatbots, image generators, automatic writing platforms, and audio-visual editing tools are now an integral part of young people's daily lives, both in school and work, as well as in their personal and recreational lives. This rapid and largely unregulated spread has highlighted several critical issues: many young people do not have the skills necessary to critically evaluate AI-generated content and are unaware of the risks associated with misinformation, algorithmic bias, privacy violations, loss of critical thinking, and technological dependence. At the same time, many youth workers say they feel unprepared to address these issues with young people: they lack the tools, methodologies, and content to integrate AI and media literacy education into their educational programs. The result is a clear skills gap in the youth sector, which risks leaving young people exposed to superficial, biased, or potentially harmful content. The AIM – AI for Media Literacy and Youth Empowerment project was created to bridge this gap by strengthening the digital, media, and critical skills of youth workers, thereby transforming a challenge (the uncontrolled spread of AI) into an opportunity for growth, creativity, and inclusion. The main objectives are: -To develop the digital and media skills of at least 24 youth workers from 6 European countries, improving their ability to use and explain generative AI in an informed and safe manner. -Strengthen the ability to recognize and counter misinformation and artificial content: Enable at least 80% of participants to identify misinformation, deepfakes, algorithmic bias and privacy risks. -Promote an ethical, inclusive, and creative approach to the use of AI tools in youth work, with activities and methodologies that can be replicated in different local contexts. -Stimulate the development of critical thinking and active digital citizenship in young people through trained participants, reaching at least 120 young people through local post-mobility activities. -Create a stable European network of youth workers active in the field of AI literacy, who will continue to exchange good practices and materials through a collaborative digital platform (AIM Hub). To achieve these objectives, AIM plans a 6-day international training course in Italy, with practical workshops on the use of generative AI, workshops on ethics and digital security, simulations of real cases (deepfakes, fake news, automated hate speech), and creative digital storytelling activities. After the mobility, participants will organize local follow-up events and co-create an “AIM Starter Pack,” an operational guide with exercises, tools, and methodologies for introducing AI into youth contexts in a safe and critical way. By focusing on youth workers, the project will ensure a strong multiplier effect: each participant will transfer the skills acquired to dozens of young people, making the youth sector more innovative, inclusive, and prepared for the challenges of digital transformation, in line with the priorities of the Erasmus+ program.
