The project “Scroll Fatigue: When Too Much Becomes Numbness” addresses a growing and urgent issue affecting young people across Europe, the mental and emotional exhaustion caused by excessive exposure to digital content, especially through social media and news platforms. Today’s youth are constantly connected, often spending several hours per day scrolling through online feeds filled with fast-moving, emotionally charged, and often negative information. This constant flow of content can lead to reduced attention span, anxiety, emotional numbness, low self-esteem, and loss of real-life social connection. Despite the growing awareness of mental health challenges, this specific problem, scroll fatigue, is still rarely talked about in schools, families, or youth programs. Our main goal is to create a space where young people can come together to recognise, understand, and respond to this problem. From a youth work perspective, this project aims to provide a non-formal learning environment that supports personal reflection, honest dialogue, and shared experiences among young people from different backgrounds. Through creative, experiential methods, participants will be encouraged to think critically about their digital behavior, explore the emotional effects of screen time, and reflect on the balance between their online and offline lives. The goal is not to reject digital life, but to help youth regain control and learn how to use digital tools in healthier, more mindful ways. This project introduces a modern, youth-driven topic into youth work spaces and equips organisations with new approaches to talk about digital health. It highlights the role of youth work in supporting mental health in ways that are accessible, inclusive, and relevant to today’s digital realities. In the long term, this project aims to create a network of young people who not only understand scroll fatigue but are ready to speak about it, educate others, and take real steps toward digital balance in their everyday lives.
