Objectives

Our project, “Resilience & The Art of Letting Go: Rituals of Remembrance – Understanding Death to Celebrate Life,” aims to open a vital yet often overlooked topic—death—in the context of youth development. We seek to create a safe, inclusive, and creative space for young people to explore their emotional, cultural, and personal understandings of death in order to build resilience, foster meaningful intercultural exchange, and promote active participation in youth-led initiatives. Death, while universal, remains taboo and under-discussed in most youth environments. Our objective is to break this silence and provide young people with tools to reflect on loss, grief, and life itself in a way that empowers rather than isolates. We believe that addressing such a profound topic can greatly support personal development and emotional maturity. The project is designed with several key objectives in mind, grounded in youth work practice: • Break the taboo around death by encouraging open dialogue and reflection in a safe, non-judgmental setting. • Support emotional resilience and personal development by allowing participants to explore their feelings and associations with death and loss, strengthening their capacity to cope with difficult life events. • Promote creative self-expression by using arts-based methods (especially graphic arts) to approach sensitive topics in a way that is inclusive, non-verbal where needed, and emotionally supportive. • Foster intercultural learning by examining how different cultures, especially in Denmark and Luxembourg, approach death, remembrance, and burial practices, including the environmental impact of such practices (e.g., green burials). • Build digital competences through participant-led documentation of the project. This includes learning digital tools for storytelling, media creation, and collaborative content production—key 21st-century skills. • Encourage youth participation in Erasmus+ by involving young people in all phases of project development, planning, and implementation, with a strong focus on peer support and hands-on learning. This project is not only a response to a shared curiosity about a difficult topic, but also an opportunity to empower youth with practical skills, emotional insight, intercultural awareness, and project management experience. By working together across borders and disciplines, we hope to create a meaningful and lasting impact on the participants and their wider communities.
