Objectives

With this project, we aim to address one of the greatest paradoxes of the digital age: increasing emotional disconnection in an era of hyper-connectivity. Although young people are constantly communicating through social networks, they risk losing their ability to engage in authentic, empathetic, and constructive dialogue. According to the World Economic Forum, critical thinking and complex problem solving are among the most important skills for the future; both of these skills are based on understanding others and expressing oneself clearly. However, Ipsos's 2023 global survey shows that nearly half (49%) of Generation Z feels lonely. This situation proves that this erosion in effective communication skills is not only a professional deficiency but also a deep social and individual need. In terms of youth work practice, our goal is to go beyond providing participants with theoretical knowledge and create a safe space where they can experience, test, and internalize these skills through the power of popular education. Our project will use workshops, theater-based methods, and structured role-playing to move participants from being passive recipients of information to becoming active creators of their own learning processes. Our practice focuses on enabling participants to recognize their automatic pilot behaviors in communication and replace them with conscious, constructive, and empathetic choices. By applying this approach, our project aims to achieve several interconnected core objectives. First, we aim to equip young people with concrete communication tools such as active listening, expressing themselves using “I-language,” and giving constructive feedback. Second, we aim to increase their tolerance for differences and mental flexibility by helping them see disagreements and conflicts not as threats but as opportunities for understanding. On a broader scale, we aim to promote intercultural understanding and break down prejudices and stereotypes by enabling young people from different cultures to listen to each other's stories. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every young person who leaves this project is not only a better communicator but also a more confident, empathetic, and active citizen in their own social circles.
