Objectives

The project "Small Step – Big Impact!" is an international youth exchange initiative with the primary goal of strengthening young people's active participation in society by developing their personal, social, and civic competences. The project brings together young people aged 16 to 20 from Latvia, Poland, Serbia and Armenia and offers a variety of non-formal education activities that promote understanding of democracy, media literacy, cultural diversity, and social responsibility. The project aim is to enhance young people's understanding of civic participation and its importance in today’s democratic society. The project encourages youth to actively engage in their communities by providing practical examples and experiences of how they can contribute meaningfully to society. It supports the development of essential skills for both personal and professional life—such as communication, critical thinking, digital competence, teamwork, and leadership. The project also seeks to amplify young people's voices by creating platforms where they can express their views, discuss societal challenges, and propose solutions. Furthermore, it fosters an inclusive and supportive environment where cultural diversity is valued, and mutual respect and solidarity are promoted. The project showcases various meaningful ways for young people to engage in society. It introduces alternative forms of participation—such as volunteering, involvement in NGOs, non-formal education, and community initiatives—emphasizing that every young person can be a driver of change. Through practical activities, workshops, and mentorship, participants will develop personal, professional, and leadership skills that are useful in everyday life and future initiatives, including project management, public speaking, time planning, and collaboration. The project strengthens youth representation and ensures their voices are heard in decision-making processes by offering discussion platforms, opportunities to engage with stakeholders, and tools to influence important societal developments. It also improves digital and media literacy by educating participants on fake news, propaganda, and disinformation, helping them critically analyze information, understand its impact on society, and make informed decisions in the digital space. To promote civic responsibility and community involvement, the project includes debates, community mapping, public actions, and a post-project homework task—volunteering at a local NGO—which helps participants identify local needs and develop youth-led solutions. Finally, the project fosters intercultural understanding and mutual respect through group work, cultural evenings, and storytelling, encouraging empathy, solidarity, and the breakdown of stereotypes. It creates an inclusive environment where diversity is seen as a strength and a source of inspiration.
