The ReVive project was born from the desire to create spaces where art is more accessible, inclusive and free from judgment. Too often, queer young people feel excluded from creative spaces, either because art is measured by the concept of “talent”, restricted by narrow definitions of what is considered “art”, or limited by the lack of safe environments and financial resources. We believe that art can be a powerful tool for young people to learn, reflect, connect with themselves and others, as a response to this, we aim to place creative processes as the main focus of the project, offering a safe and supportive space where queer youth and allies can explore the potential of art created with recycled materials. At the same time, many young people cannot afford the cost of traditional art resources, while enormous amounts of materials are wasted every day, contaminating the environment. By combining these realities, our goal is to promote up cycling as a way to “revive” discarded materials and transform them into something meaningful and artistic. Through this approach, we aim to empower queer youth and allies, creating a space where they can connect with the joy of creating but also develop a deeper understanding of the importance of recycling, sustainability and inclusion. Objectives of the ReVive project: Promote creativity and self- expression: Encourage queer youth and allies to explore visual arts as a way to reflect, discover themselves, grow personally, and communicate ideas, focusing on enjoying the process and materializing ideas rather than achieving perfection. This will be measured by participants’ engagement in creative activities and the artworks created. Encourage sustainable practices: Inspire participants to use recycled materials and upcycling techniques, showing that art can be crafted from resources often considered waste. Participants will gain practical skills in sustainable art-making and raise awareness about environmental responsibility. Develop personal and social skills: Empower participants to work collaboratively, improve teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability, intercultural communication and confidence in their ability to create meaningful work regardless of resources. The progress will be observed through discussions, group projects and reflective activities. Create safe and inclusive spaces: Create an environment where LGBTQIA+/Queer youth and allies feel respected, supported and free to explore their creativity. Street activism and visibility: Organize a local event in Riga where participants can showcase their creations, gain visibility and connect with the local community and artists, while sharing their experience exploring upcycled art. Build a diverse craft-based community: Lay the way to future local actions, ensuring a lasting impact after the exchange and beginning to create an intercultural community that embraces diversity, inclusion and environmental awareness. The impact of the project will be measured through participants’ follow-up initiatives. Promote Erasmus+ and non-formal learning: Raise awareness among participants and the broader community about the opportunities offered by Erasmus+ and non-formal learning, using the Youthpass as the main tool to recognize participants’ personal growth, learning outcomes and skills development.
