Objectives

All across Europe, traditional sports and games are slowly fading from daily life. Yet these simple activities, once played in every village and neighbourhood, carry powerful values of teamwork, fairness, creativity, and identity. In youth work we see how young people are losing connection with these traditions at the same time as they face growing challenges: social exclusion, lack of self-confidence, and limited opportunities for intercultural contact. At the same time, sport remains one of the few universal languages that can bring people together instantly, regardless of culture, language, or background. As Nelson Mandela once said, “Sport has the power to change the world… it has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.” We believe that by reviving traditional sports and games, we can turn this power into a tool for youth work, personal development, and inclusion. Our objectives are: 1. Promote traditional sports and games as tools for personal development and intercultural dialogue. 2. Foster inclusion by ensuring active participation of young people with fewer opportunities. 3. Strengthen leadership skills by giving youth responsibility to design and facilitate activities. 4. Develop practical life skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making. 5. Raise awareness about the value of cultural heritage and diversity in Europe. 6. Encourage creativity and digital competences through the production of multimedia outputs. 7. Promote healthy and active lifestyles through sport-based non-formal education. 8. Connect young people with Erasmus+ and other European opportunities for learning, mobility, and civic engagement. By pursuing these objectives, we aim to create a youth exchange that is more than just a week of activities. We want to give young people the chance to step into leadership roles, to feel included, and to discover that their heritage and creativity have value in today’s Europe. Through workshops, traditional games, digital storytelling and intercultural dialogue, they will build skills that stay with them for life: confidence, teamwork, openness and responsibility. They will also become multipliers, sharing what they learned in their schools, youth clubs and communities, and encouraging their peers to join Erasmus+. In this way, the project is both a journey into the past and an investment in the future. Traditional sports connect us with our roots, while digital tools and intercultural exchange prepare us for tomorrow. By combining these elements, we want to show young people that they are capable of leading change, building inclusive societies, and carrying forward the values of Erasmus+. The mobility may last only a few days, but the competences, friendships and sense of belonging it creates will continue long after – in their daily lives, their organisations, and their communities across Europe.
