Objectives

Young people across Europe are experiencing growing mental health challenges, with stress, anxiety, depression, and social isolation on the rise. OECD (2021) reported that anxiety and depression rates among young people doubled during the COVID-19 pandemic. Youth workers are often the first point of contact, yet many feel underprepared and lack the tools to respond effectively. At the same time, sport and physical activity remain underused in youth work, despite strong evidence that they promote wellbeing, resilience, and social inclusion. The Bounce Back project addresses this gap by placing sport and Physical Activity at the centre of youth work practice. It builds on the experience of the project partners, focusing on sport as a creative, inclusive, and accessible tool to promote mental health and resilience for both young people and the youth workers who support them. Through a seven-day professional development programme, 21 youth workers from across Europe will take part in interactive training, peer learning, and sport-based workshops. Together, they will co-create the Bounce Back Toolkit, a practical tool with ready-to-use activities and wellbeing resources for everyday youth work. The project will also empower organisations to embed sport-based wellbeing approaches into their long-term strategies, particularly in outreach and work with young people with fewer opportunities. The Objectives of the project are to: -Strengthen the competences of 21 youth workers from across Europe to integrate sport and physical activity into their daily practice. - Develop a practical Toolkit with ready-to-use sport-based activities and wellbeing exercises for daily youth work - Show how sport supports early recognition of mental health challenges. - Create peer learning opportunities across Europe. - Support organisations to embed sport and wellbeing in long-term strategies. - Contribute to Erasmus+ priorities by promoting inclusion, healthy lifestyles, and youth participation. By reaching these objectives, the project strengthens youth workers, empowers organisations, and promotes innovative, sport-based approaches to wellbeing. In doing so, it creates inclusive environments where young people can thrive and ensures that the results are sustainable and impactful across Europe.
