Objectives

"EcoSteps" project was created to respond to the environmental crisis and to the strong need expressed by young people for meaningful, practical opportunities to take action. Issues such as climate change, deforestation, pollution, biodiversity loss and wildfires are not distant threats but realities that directly affect human health and ecosystems. For youth, these challenges bring not only material consequences but also emotional ones, often leading to feelings of anxiety and powerlessness. The project has the specific role of turning this concern into positive energy by equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to become active changemakers. From youth perspective, the project is designed to fill the gap between awareness and action. While schools and media may provide theoretical knowledge, many young people lack access to non-formal education spaces where they can learn by doing, share their perspectives with international peers and develop practical competences for sustainable living. "EcoSteps" creates such a space, combining intercultural learning with non-formal methods that are inclusive, experiential and reflective. By using interactive workshops, outdoor/creative group activities and daily reflection sessions, project will support participants in developing both personal and collective responsibility for a greener and more inclusive future. The project was developed based on direct input from young people across the six partner countries Netherlands, Latvia, Hungary, Poland, Norway and Lithuania through surveys and consultations. Youth identified sustainability practices such as recycling, upcycling, zero-waste living and responsible consumption as areas they wanted to learn more about. They also expressed a strong interest in meeting peers from other countries to exchange ideas about how environmental challenges are experienced in different contexts. This participatory design ensures that the project is relevant, grounded in real needs and youth driven. The aim of EcoSteps is to raise environmental awareness and empower young people to take responsibility for promoting sustainable practices in their daily lives and communities. Objectives: - Raise awareness of environmental issues by providing participants with accessible and understandable information about the main ecological challenges (pollution, climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss, waste). - To develop practical competences for sustainable living, including recycling and upcycling skills, creative use of resources, energy and water conservation and zero-waste strategies. - Strengthen young people’s moral responsibility and sense of initiative, encouraging them to see themselves as active citizens capable of making a difference in their communities. - To promote intercultural dialogue and solidarity by bringing together youth from six European countries to share their experiences, values, and practices related to environmental protection. - Encourage creativity and innovation by involving participants in workshops, outdoor activities and team projects where they can design and test eco-friendly solutions. We believe that by encouraging young people to take small but consistent eco-steps, the project shows that non-formal education is an important way to address environmental/global problems starting at the local level.
