In today’s world, young people face increasing uncertainty, polarization, and a deepening climate and social crisis. Youth workers play a crucial role in supporting them to find direction, belonging, and hope. However, youth work itself is often challenged by conflict, stress, and the urgent need to adapt to rapidly changing realities. They sometimes find it hard to provide adequate support to the youth, who are struggling with loneliness, anxiety, and aggression, either to others or in the form of self-criticism. Youth workers are trying to take the problems of youth seriously, but often feel it is difficult to operate in a society that rather alienates youth and makes them shut down. They need a vision for another culture, a Culture of Peace, as well as practical tools to assist youth in their well-being, guide them through conflict and problem-solve together. This training responds to those challenges by strengthening youth workers’ capacity to foster peace at multiple levels: within themselves, in their groups, in society, and with the Earth. The training invites youth workers to explore community building and peacebuilding through experiential learning in nature. By combining peacebuilding with walking in nature, the project offers a holistic and embodied learning experience. The training provides an important experience of peace, not as something abstract, but lived. It allows participants to slow down, reflect, and connect with what peace means in practice. The program emphasizes the urgency of learning to live in peace — with ourselves, with others, and with the planet. The aim of this training is to contribute to more inclusive, cooperative, and sustainable youth work practices that support young people to imagine and create futures rooted in peace and sustainability. The objectives are the following: For youth workers to: - Improve their emotional well-being and resilience, increasing their capacity to support youth; - Develop their ability to solve and prevent conflict and facilitate inclusive win-win solutions, thereby creating a positive and safe group atmosphere for youth; - Enhance their creativity and ability to contribute to a Culture of Peace, through engaging youth in Story Telling and Theater; - Increase the awareness and practice of sustainability in youth work, thereby addressing eco-anxiety in youth, developing a positive relationship to nature and increasing youth’s participation in mitigating and countering climate change and natural destruction; - Create a network for support, learning and cooperation, so partner organisations in the youth work sector can improve their work.
