Objectives

Young people feel a growing sense of urgency to act for the Earth. Yet many of them struggle to transform their concern into concrete action. They are looking for role models, inspiration, and practical tools to take responsibility, not only as ‘leaders of a group,’ but from their own unique place within the group and within Earth’s community. Ecological leadership is not a position; it is an attitude, the willingness to care for one another and for nature. Our project empowers youth workers to guide this process. They will learn to take decisions with the perspective of nature in mind, engage with nature as a safe and inspiring learning environment, explore their own ecological identity, and support young people in taking their first steps in ecological leadership, through reflection, co-created small-scale actions such as Random Acts of Kindness for Nature, and meaningful participation in their communities. The training draws on nature-based learning, systems thinking, and The Work That Reconnects, combining bio-anthropological perspectives with experiential learning in nature. This unique mix creates a transformative space where participants explore reciprocity, diversity, and responsibility, both within their groups and in their relationship with the Earth. Objectives: Safe learning environment in nature – Youth workers learn to foster a reciprocal relationship with nature, creating a safe and inspiring space for reflection, creativity, and collaboration. Training ecological leadership – Youth workers engage in experiential methods that they can directly apply to foster ecological leadership among young people. Ecological awareness and cultural leadership – Youth workers guide young people in strengthening ecological awareness and embracing cultural diversity in leadership. Ecological identity and personal growth – Participants learn methods to help young people discover their place in Earth’s community and clarify their values and needs. Intercultural learning – Youth workers integrate cultural stories and perspectives on nature and leadership into their practice, with a particular focus on young people from underrepresented backgrounds. Outreach and System Development – The impact of the training is anchored through a toolbox, webinar, and learning community, supporting the gradual embedding of ecological leadership in youth work practices and organisations.
