Our project aims to empower young people in rural areas by focusing on four main objectives: to explore rural life through tradition and nature; to show young people the opportunities and strengths they have and what they can be proud of; to build networks, understanding, and respect across cultures through youth council work; and to encourage self-confidence, independence, and the courage to take on new challenges. By continuing our partnership between Norway, Iceland, and Croatia, we give young people a chance to develop these skills and perspectives through meaningful international exchanges. If we succeed in strengthening especially their confidence, leadership skills, and active citizenship among the youth participants, we believe that they later on would like to continue international work as well. To provide safe and supportive environments where young people can explore their identities, build confidence, and develop meaningful relationships with others, is something we believe the youth participants will remember and appreciate. By involving the youths in the whole process, like we did in Rural Demo P1, gives the youths a sense of ownership to the project. This was one of the success factors then, which we want to repeat in Part 2. For example, we will organize peer-led workshops that encourage participants to share their experiences, reflect on their values, and learn both practical and traditional skills in each exchange country. By doing this in the youth participants rural home towns, we also believe that they will get a stronger sense of identity as rural and European citizens.
