Objectives

The Russian aggression in Ukraine, starting in February 2022, marked a turning point for the Eastern Partnership (EaP) nations Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine on their path toward European integration. Despite longstanding EU assistance, a key moment came on June 23, 2022, when Moldova and Ukraine received candidate status, followed by Georgia in December 2023. These historic decisions signaled that the EU will not allow Russia to push these countries back into its sphere of influence and reinforced that full membership is only a matter of time. the primary goal of the project is to raise awareness among young people in the European Union about their future member states such as Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. The project will explore the historical and ongoing challenges these countries face on their EU integration journey, especially as neighbours of Russia. Russia has consistently perceived democratic development in neighbouring countries as a threat, using war, conflict and occupation to hinder their progress. This project invites EU participants to explore and critically analyse these geopolitical realities, recognise Ukraine as the EU’s frontline and understand why the successful accession of these three countries is vital for long-term European stability. At the same time, the project aims to promote mutual understanding, cultural exchange and collaboration between young people from the EU and the EaP region. While EU participants will deepen their knowledge about these aspiring EU members, participants from Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova will connect with their European peers, share values and build relationships rooted in mutual respect and a shared vision for the future. These connections will help ensure that, post-accession, young people from both sides are united by common values and a strong European identity. From the perspective of youth work practice, this project aims to empower young people through non-formal education methods, critical reflection and intercultural learning. By engaging participants in peer-to-peer learning, experiential activities and group work, we create a safe space where young people can explore complex issues, form their own informed opinions and develop a strong sense of civic responsibility. The project promotes active youth participation by involving young people in shaping the content and facilitating some of the activities themselves. Through this, participants will gain soft skills such as communication, teamwork, empathy and public speaking, which are essential for their personal growth and future engagement in society. Furthermore, the project supports youth agency by encouraging participants to act as multipliers in their communities, sharing what they learned and promoting values of democracy, peace and inclusion. In this way, the project does not just inform but also transforms in sense of turning passive observers into proactive young citizens. These objectives will be achieved through: 1. Interactive workshops and debates on frozen and ongoing conflicts in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine and their impact on European security.
 2. Simulations where participants take on roles of EU policymakers, negotiators and civil society actors.
 3. Expert panels on EU integration, conflict resolution and international relations.
 4. Cultural exchange activities promoting dialogue, breaking stereotypes and strengthening bonds.
 5. Storytelling sessions where EaP participants share lived experiences of conflict, occupation and democratic struggle. Beyond knowledge and skills, the project promotes attitudinal change. Participants will build critical thinking, resilience against misinformation and a stronger commitment to EU values like democracy, human rights and solidarity. Through social media, blogs and school presentations, they will act as multipliers, extending impact beyond the exchange. The exchange also breaks barriers through cultural and linguistic learning, encouraging diversity, self-expression and initiative. Afterward, participants will stay connected through follow-up actions, an online network and future Erasmus+ activities, ensuring long-term impact. It is worth noting, that project idea comes from the participants who took a part in Stronger Together (2022, Georgia), where young people discussed the EU–EaP relationship right when the EC recommended Georgia’s candidate status. That experience was powerful, emotional and full of learning and it clearly showed us that youth exchanges are not just fun but they’re meaningful tools for shaping awareness, resilience and unity. That project was the seed of Chasing European Dreams. It goes deeper, connects more countries and responds directly to the new reality of war, integration and European solidarity.
