The reason for the birth of the idea of implementing the project "Theatre is an art that inspires us to act and change the world" in us (youth exchange participants) was the beginning of a full-scale war in Ukraine. The outbreak of the war in Ukraine was a real shock for us - the youth taking part in this task, as well as the local communities in which we function on a daily basis. When we finally got over the shock associated with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the influx of thousands of refugees from Ukraine to our countries and the difficulties in the social and economic sphere associated with the absorption of such a large number of refugees by our countries, we decided that we also had to react positively and seriously confront the extremely difficult situation that our local communities had become. Finally, the need matured in us to acquire knowledge and experience, as well as skills and competences enabling effective support for refugees arriving from Ukraine to our countries (also in terms of their assimilation). Despite the passage of two years since the beginning of the war, the situation of people arriving from Ukraine to our countries is still far from ideal. There are tensions regarding the origin of these people, organizational problems related to work, studies and functioning within local communities of people who came to our countries from Ukraine. All of this bothers us, all of this worries and saddens us. That is why we want to carry out this project! The title of our project is, on the one hand, a borrowing from a quote by one of the most valued Polish poets - Bolesław Leśmian, and on the other hand, an inspiration to give our project its current shape. Our position is that the situation related to the war in Ukraine forces us to be ready for any eventuality (especially when it comes to accepting and providing assistance to refugees from Ukraine). The main issue around which our project will oscillate is "Accepting and integrating refugees and migrants". The main tools with which we will explore this topic will be culture and art. Our choice fell on culture and art because we believe that it will be a safe and comfortable enough project space for us to "protect" us from "emotional combustion" when we touch upon such sensitive topics as war, human suffering, helping refugees, etc. Creating and presenting to a wide audience the play "Theatre is an art that inspires us to act and change the world" showing the fate of a Ukrainian family who first has to confront the outbreak of war in their country, and then after arriving as refugees in Poland finds solace within the functioning of a local theater, will allow us to create a project space within which we will be able to express emotions (fear, frustration, lack of consent to evil) that have accumulated in us since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. Tools from the field of theater arts will help us express ourselves, give meaning to our lives, which are marked by contact with refugees from Ukraine and through this unimaginable human dramas, to mature, understand the essence of the problem, acquire the sensitivity that is needed to be able to effectively help refugees from Ukraine. Participation in the youth exchange will allow us to gain knowledge and experience in the field of 1) formal matters related to issues related to refugees, 2) providing assistance and support to refugees from Ukraine (both in theory and in practice), 3) becoming responsible, substantively and mentally prepared citizens capable of providing real support to refugees from Ukraine. We feel the need to get involved in the process of accepting and providing support to refugees from Ukraine. However, we intuitively feel that for this assistance to be effective, we still have to understand a lot and learn a lot in this area. This is precisely what our participation in this project is intended to serve. In addition, through participation in the project we hope to experience cultural knowledge, acquire an attitude of tolerance and openness to diversity and otherness, develop language and digital skills and learn to work in a large international group, gain knowledge and skills in relation to the implementation of projects under the Erasmus + program, develop project and European awareness, learn how to use cultural and artistic tools to achieve social, civic and educational goals, acquire awareness of the use of sustainable ecological practices, help develop our organizations by creating and strengthening a network of international contacts. In order for us to be properly understood, all these goals are extremely important, but the issues related to accepting and providing assistance to refugees from Ukraine who have arrived or will arrive in the near future to our countries will be the most important during the implementation of the project "Theatre is an art that inspires us to act and change the world".
