Our main goal is to counteract the negative phenomenon of the deterioration of broadly understood mental health and wellbeing among young people, to prevent the consequences of this decline, and to strengthen qualities and attitudes that support emotional stability. The following intermediate objectives will gradually bring us closer to a fully satisfactory implementation of the project and the achievement of our main goal: - counteracting the stigmatization of young people affected by the negative consequences of deteriorating mental health through better understanding of the problem and raising social awareness of its causes, consequences, and impacts, - strengthening participants in the area of attitudes and competences for coping during periods of high stress, fear, or uncertainty, dealing with failures, facing new challenges, adapting to changing realities, lack of motivation, and other factors that may permanently harm wellbeing and mental health, - improving understanding of the phenomenon of deteriorating mental health and wellbeing among young people, - promoting methods that support mental health and wellbeing, such as self-care, building self-esteem, developing social and interpersonal skills, fostering a sense of belonging to and acceptance within the local community, understanding personal needs and emotions and the ability to express and name them, as well as encouraging greater activity through outdoor actions, nature-based learning, and mindfulness, - developing experiences, competences, and skills related to preparing and implementing the project and conducting international cooperation. Our teams consist of young people aged 18 to 25. The last four years have been full of events that directly impacted our lives. We had to cope with a new reality, facing new challenges and obstacles. At first, the pandemic brought restrictions, changes in everyday life, social isolation, and difficulties in the education sector. Later, the war in Eastern Europe stirred previously unknown fears for our future and the future of others, imposed the pressure of constantly checking shocking media reports, and led to rapid changes within our local communities. The issues indicated also have a broader social impact. During the project planning phase, we conducted surveys among peers and local communities, which showed that as many as 78% of respondents assessed their wellbeing as worsened, and 62% declared that their subjective sense of decreased wellbeing was related to events of the last 2–3 years and negatively affected their quality of life, attitudes, activity, and contributed to increased stress and anxiety. In a broader European context, the problem of deteriorating health and wellbeing among EU citizens is reflected in research, as well as in EU strategies and priorities.
