Objectives

As stated by the UN Secretary-General (June 2023), "Hate speech is used to spread fear and social divisions, often for political gain, which has significant negative consequences for society. It incites violence, exacerbates tensions, and hinders efforts to support mediation and dialogue. It is one of the signs heralding genocide and other atrocities." To avoid such a dangerous escalation and promote inclusive societies, it is important to take action to prevent and combat hate speech. Therefore, the main goal of the project is to: Conduct training and equip 30 youth workers and young activists with the competencies and tools necessary to recognize and counter hate speech and promote human rights. Specific objectives: -Increase awareness of the problem of hate speech and effective recognition of its various forms in both online and offline environments. -Provide practical tools and strategies enabling participants to effectively counter hate speech in their communities (online and offline), using Counter and Alternative Narratives (CANs) methodology. -Promote the exchange and dissemination of best practices undertaken at the local, national, or international level in defense of human rights and combating hate speech. -Initiate actions against racism and discrimination in the online space through multimedia campaigns that emphasize the importance of equality and respect for diversity.
