Objectives

During the preparation and design of our previous project on mental health, we noted that mental disorders are a health condition involving changes in thinking, emotion or behaviour (e.g. depression). According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), more than a quarter of the adult population in Europe has experienced at least one mental disorder in the last year. This led to the observation that, according to the European Youth Portal, the incidence of six of the seven main risk factors for premature death in young people is increasing across Europe: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high body mass index, insufficient fruit intake, obesity and being overweight. These are one of the main reasons why our project aims to promote a healthy lifestyle that addresses the main risk factors. Therefore, promoting a healthy lifestyle with the project hopes to play an important role in reducing mortality and strengthening the health of young people. This project begins with the certainty that many diseases can be prevented by promoting healthy lifestyles. Inner Revolution is a project that was born as a result of the trend towards the loss of healthy habits among the population, especially among young people, as a continuation of our work developed in the previous project. The main objective of the project is to raise awareness of the importance of following healthy lifestyle habits for personal well-being and happiness, and for participants and, to a lesser extent, those involved in the project to indirectly reflect on their habits and acquire knowledge and tools to improve them. Thus, throughout the project, we will work in a practical and reflective way on habits related to the five main areas of health: sport and physical activity, nutrition, sleep, and mental/emotional health. Consequently, the project has designed a series of objectives that it hopes to achieve in order to fulfil its mission, such as: - TEACHING and PROMOTING sports activities and a healthy lifestyle among young people; - PREPARING young people in the four main habits that affect young people's health, such as physical activity, nutrition, sleep and mental/emotional health. - SHARING culture and identifying how culture and environment affect living standards and health. - EXPLAINING the role of personal goals for a fully healthy lifestyle and taking full responsibility for it; Thus, after previous work on a single project focused specifically on mental health, the young people of Douro Youth recognised the serious and delicate trend among young people regarding their health, which led us to decide to carry out this project. With the development of this project, the organisations seek to work for young people, supporting their personal development in the field of health in general, taking up the concerns shared by our entities with the European institutions gathered through the European Youth Portal regarding the deterioration of young people's health and the increase in situations leading to premature death. At the same time, we promote youth mobility to complement a learning process that has been developed since the project was conceived. Inner Revolution aims to equip young people with tools to enable them to face the possible obstacles they encounter, personalising the difficulties caused by health problems that increase the difficulty for young people to actively participate in the Erasmus+ programme and in society, putting into practice the principles of the Inclusion and Diversity Strategy in the field of the Erasmus+ programme. In addition, the project is identified within the scope of two of the EU's main health strategies, such as the Commission's strategy on health issues related to nutrition, overweight and obesity, with the aim of helping to reduce the risks related to poor diet and physical activity, and the Common Frameworks for Action on Mental Health and Well-being. The Inner Revolution project will have a significant impact at national and European level by empowering 42 young people from six different countries with knowledge and practical tools to adopt healthy lifestyles, which can be replicated in their local communities and international networks. This exchange will be a unique opportunity to share good practices, allowing participants to disseminate the ‘21 Steps to Heal’ guide as an accessible and adaptable resource in different cultural contexts. In addition, the implementation of follow-up activities, such as workshops or local events, will ensure that the lessons learned during the exchange benefit a wider audience and create a lasting impact in various regions of Europe.
