Objectives

The AEEIPB (Association of Foreign Students of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança) is an organisation with extensive experience in promoting and developing educational projects, mainly with international young people. The main objective of the AEEIPB is to support the integration of foreign students in the city of Bragança through initiatives that promote intercultural dialogue and the exchange of knowledge. With a strong network of institutional partnerships, including the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, Bragança City Council and several local cultural and recreational organisations, the association has excelled in promoting a more inclusive city with a dynamic international university environment. The consortium for this project includes organisations with extensive experience in working with young people and implementing international projects under the Erasmus+ programme. Partners include Eco Youth Alliance (Serbia), Educpro Spain (Spain), Green Hope (Romania), Mesopotamia Youth Work (Turkey), Atominiai (Lithuania) and Abruzzo Plus (Italy), each bringing their unique expertise to the project. These organisations have a strong track record in promoting social inclusion, environmental awareness, youth leadership and the development of transversal skills, as well as experience in various areas such as social entrepreneurship, intercultural communication and the integration of young immigrants. The joint work aims to create a positive impact on the personal and social development of young people through mobility and the exchange of good practices. The city of Bragança, like many regions in the interior of Portugal, welcomes a growing number of international students who, although they move to the city in search of higher education, often face difficulties in integrating due to cultural differences and the distance from the social dynamics of large urban centres. This scenario limits interaction between foreign students and the local community, making it difficult to build social and cultural networks. On the other hand, Bragança has a rich cultural heritage, whose traditions and practices are not fully explored by young internationals. The promotion of activities involving both students and the local community can be an opportunity to revitalise this heritage, creating intercultural bridges and promoting active and enriching integration for all participants. The ‘Roots & Routes’ project aims to promote social inclusion and strengthen community cohesion through cultural exchange, training and interaction activities between young people from different countries in the European Union and beyond. During the project, participants will have the opportunity to explore the cultural heritage of the city of Bragança, take part in workshops on cultural preservation, social entrepreneurship and interculturality, and visit various local institutions that contribute to the social and cultural development of the region. The final tool of the project will be the ‘Inclusion Atlas’, an interactive digital platform that documents the activities carried out, local cultural practices and the experiences of young people, promoting the continuity of the project's impact and serving as a reference for future initiatives. There are three main objectives of this project: To promote social inclusion and the integration of young foreigners: The project aims to create an inclusive space for young people from different cultures, promoting mutual understanding and the exchange of experiences. Raise awareness of the importance of cultural preservation and local heritage: Through visits to cultural institutions and interactive workshops, the project aims to raise awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage and local traditions. Developing transversal skills in young people: The project will seek to equip young participants with essential skills for their personal and social development, including communication, leadership, teamwork and social entrepreneurship skills. This project is aligned with the priorities of the National Agency and Erasmus+, particularly with regard to promoting social inclusion, active citizenship and the involvement of young people in community and social issues. Social inclusion, one of the fundamental pillars of Erasmus+, is a central priority, as the project aims to reduce the isolation of foreign young people and young people in vulnerable situations by providing them with the opportunity to fully integrate into the life of the local community. In addition, the project contributes to strengthening social cohesion and European citizenship by encouraging intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding among young people of different nationalities.
