Objectives

By implementing this project, we aim to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and tools to actively engage in wildfire prevention, sustainability, and climate resilience. With wildfires becoming more frequent and severe, particularly in northern Portugal, raising awareness and fostering proactive solutions is crucial. Taking place in Ponte de Lima, a rural village highly affected by wildfires, the project will provide participants with firsthand exposure to environmental challenges, enabling them to learn from local experts and affected communities. Through non-formal education, hands-on activities, and intercultural exchange, young people will develop practical skills in fire prevention, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable land management. From a youth work perspective, the project aims to empower participants by fostering active citizenship, leadership, and teamwork. Many young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, lack opportunities to engage in climate action and policy-making. This project will bridge that gap by equipping them with practical knowledge, advocacy tools, and the confidence to take action in their communities. The main objectives of the project are: -To raise awareness about the causes and impacts of wildfires. -To develop skills in wildfire prevention and sustainability. -To promote intercultural collaboration in environmental action. -To empower young people to take leadership roles in climate initiatives. -To support youth engagement in local and digital wildfire awareness campaigns. At the end of the project, the participants will be better prepared to contribute to wildfire prevention efforts, apply sustainable practices in their daily lives, and lead climate action initiatives in their communities.
