Objectives

The Nature at Risk Training Course aims to equip youth workers from seven European countries with the knowledge, tools, and creative methods needed to address environmental risks, eco-anxiety, and sustainability in their daily work with young people. By combining experiential learning, creative expression, and practical outputs, the project aspires to transform environmental challenges into opportunities for youth empowerment, resilience, and active citizenship. Objectives from the perspective of youth work practice: Strengthen youth workers’ competences in environmental education and resilience-building Provide youth workers with practical, non-formal education tools to raise awareness about climate risks such as forest fires, floods, pollution, biodiversity loss, and eco-anxiety. Train participants in resilience strategies, enabling them to support young people facing climate-related stress and uncertainty. Create innovative educational resources for wider use Co-create the Guardians of Nature Toolkit, a collection of workshops, infographics, personal stories, and social media materials developed by participants. Ensure the Toolkit is open access and can be used, adapted, and shared by youth workers across Europe, multiplying the project’s impact beyond the direct participants. Promote creative and digital methods in youth work Use art, storytelling, simulation games, and digital tools as innovative approaches to engage young people in understanding environmental issues. Integrate digital dissemination skills through the Green Lens Campaign, where participants create daily social media content to document and share their learning journey. Foster intercultural cooperation and exchange of good practices Bring together youth workers from Portugal, Spain, Greece, Estonia, Iceland, Slovakia, and Serbia to share their countries’ realities, challenges, and solutions regarding environmental risks. Encourage peer-to-peer learning and cross-country collaboration, strengthening European cooperation in youth work. Empower youth workers to act as multipliers in their communities Prepare participants to deliver follow-up workshops and community activities after the Training Course, ensuring that the results directly reach young people at local, regional, and national levels. Position youth workers as “Guardians of Nature Ambassadors,” integrating the Toolkit into their everyday practice and sustaining long-term impact. Why is this important for youth work? Environmental risks and climate anxiety are increasingly shaping the lives of young people. Many youth workers feel underprepared to address these issues or to provide meaningful guidance to young people dealing with environmental uncertainty. This project responds directly to that need by combining environmental awareness with youth work methodologies. It empowers youth workers not only to raise awareness but also to inspire action, build resilience, and foster hope among the younger generations. By connecting youth work with sustainability, resilience, and digital innovation, the project contributes to the quality, innovation, and recognition of youth work in Europe. It ensures that environmental education becomes a practical, engaging, and empowering element of youth work practice. In summary: We want to strengthen youth workers’ ability to address environmental risks and eco-anxiety. We will co-create the Guardians of Nature Toolkit as a practical resource for youth work. We will use creative, non-formal, and digital methods to engage participants and ensure visibility. We will foster intercultural exchange and long-term cooperation among partner organisations. We will empower participants to act as multipliers, transferring their new competences to young people and communities across Europe. Through these objectives, Nature at Risk will not only develop youth workers’ competences but also ensure that youth work contributes meaningfully to one of the greatest challenges of our time: protecting our environment while empowering young people to face the future with resilience, creativity, and hope.
