Objectives

The "Employment Next Gen Heroes" project emerges from the need to strengthen young people’s interpersonal and social skills, empowering youth workers to act as effective facilitators in this process. The training aims to equip participants with innovative methodologies, practical tools and collaborative experiences that enable them to support young people in developing essential skills for personal and professional success. Through interactive workshops, co-creation sessions and moments of reflection, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with, apply and adapt the methodologies they have learned, ensuring a practical and replicable approach in their local contexts. We live in an era where innovation advances faster than our ability to adapt, making every human interaction a vital tool for young people's success in the job market and in life. In Portugal, the youth unemployment rate in Bragança reaches 20%, one of the highest in the European Union, highlighting the urgency of training the professionals who work with these young people. The experience of Synergia Bragança, host of the training, showed that despite initiatives focused on digital skills, there are still significant gaps in interpersonal and social skills, which are essential for young people's integration into the job market and personal development. The training was therefore structured to respond directly to these needs, offering youth workers innovative tools and methodologies that they can apply in a practical way. In establishing the consortium, the association joined forces with partners from the Czech Republic, Italy, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, and Spain, combining consolidated experience in non-formal education with creativity and innovation. This diversity of contexts allows participants to share experiences, adapt methods to local realities, and create practical solutions that can be replicated in their communities. During the training, youth workers will develop Play4Skills games, a series of innovative games that combine interactive board and card game components with practical educational elements, ensuring that young people who use them can strengthen their interpersonal and social skills. These games will be prepared in both print-ready format, for immediate use in face-to-face activities, and in digital format, allowing young people in the communities to access and practise independently of the sessions organised by the youth workers. The project also has the support of local and European institutions, including Bragança City Council, the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, FAJUVISDB and NERBA, which will facilitate access to the resources and methodologies developed by other youth professionals and young people. In partner countries, organisations such as the Biblioteca Comunale di Russi (Italy), the AHA Centre (Romania), the University of Niš (Serbia), the Antalya Youth Centre (Turkey) and educational foundations in Spain will ensure that the materials and tools created are adapted to local contexts and used on an ongoing basis. The active participation of youth workers during the training will enable them to consolidate their skills and increase their confidence and motivation to act as agents of change in their communities. After the training, these professionals will be better prepared to implement Play4Skills games, facilitate innovative educational activities and positively influence the personal and social development of the young people they work with. The project thus ensures that the results are not limited to the duration of the training, but continue to have an impact through local actions, the use of digital resources, the sharing of good practices and the building of European networks of trained and inspired professionals. The "Employment Next Gen Heroes" project ultimately aims to create a lasting multiplier effect: youth workers will enhance their professional practice with innovative methods and tools, communities will benefit from structured and accessible activities, and the knowledge generated will be disseminated and adapted in multiple national and international contexts, ensuring that young people continue to develop essential skills long after the project has ended.
