Democracy, the power of words, dialogue and mutual understanding represent the sole foundation of the European Union. By creating a system based on ethical values and by fighting for a common cause, the member countries began working together as different organs of a larger body. Since then, Europe developed as a whole and a new political structure was developed, through democracy. In order to preserve its role and values, the European population should obtain a democratic conscience and be active participants in elections. Unfortunately, there is a deficit in implication regarding democratic life due to decreased political knowledge among youth. In order to bring a sense of responsibility, the European Union is making a great effort to implement more formal and nonformal educational projects. We are hopeful and almost certain that our project will shape the participants and their communities into active citizens with an extensive understanding of the infrastructure and core of the European leadership. On a larger scale, this would increase the EU's ability to work and function as a whole, decreasing the division of the member countries and softening the barriers between different communities. Goal: Shaping 40 young people aged 18-24 years old from Romania, Hungary, Greece and Bulgaria into active, competent citizens of the European Union until the end of the project. Specific objectives: 1. To increase the understanding of the EU's framework among 40 young people aged 18-24 from Romania, Hungary, Greece, Bulgaria to be able to correctly participate in the democratic life by the end of the project. 2. To educate 40 young people aged 18-24 from Romania, Hungary, Greece, Bulgaria about the importance of democracy as a form of leadership through non-formal activities by the end of the project. 3. To embed a better understanding of the character of an active citizen through non-formal simulations that resemble the European Commission and a democratic system for 40 young people aged 18-24 from Romania, Hungary, Greece, Bulgaria by the end of the mobility. The objectives of the project perfectly align with the European Commission’s aims and ambitions regarding the education and integrity of the young population. Therefore, our project represents a step forward in youth learning and, in order to closely follow the European Youth Strategy, we aim to achieve the following goals: Connecting EU with youth, Space and participation for all, Youth Organizations and European Programmes. Some sessions are dedicated to learning through brainstorming, open speech and teamwork about the demographic of Europe. The topics provided for the participants include: the history of democracy (how a brilliant idea of a Greek philosopher shaped itself into a functioning system for the society), the responsibilities and rights of a citizen, the framework of the European Union and the influence of youth in democratic life. In order to become an active citizen, one not only has to obtain an extensive knowledge regarding politics, but also a sense of responsibility and an active engagement in elections. For this reason, we want to embed a better understanding of the political background of Europe and the impact of youth’s decision and participation in democratic affairs. These activities would teach them the spirit of European values and develop their rational thinking, speech and communication skills. This guarantees the invaluable voice of the youth being heard across the continent. Our project is centred around the European Union. We want to follow the European model and work together toward our goals. We plan to dissolve the barriers between different communities and show how we are all interlinked in our fight for the greater good. Also, the activities provided by our facilitator would require the participants to complete assignments as a team. This would lead to a better understanding and communication, which would create a sense of membership and cooperation. Furthermore, the diversity of our participants derives not only from their geographical environment, but also from the discrepancy between their social backgrounds. We want to include participants with fewer opportunities and give them a chance to align with the rest and to even out the gaps between them. We are making sure that the project runs smoothly and every session will be carried out in the spirit of inclusion. Our project's core is designed by a dedicated team of young people, not only part of the organisations, but also representatives of the targeted communities present in our project. We rely on our participants' efforts and implication throughout the exchange. With the help of online surveys, also by including them in managerial affairs throughout the mobility and by encouraging them to spread the message of the project through dissemination, online platforms and the power of example, we ensure an active role of all the young people involved.
