Objectives

“Migrant Lisa: The Portrait of Today’s Europe” is a youth exchange that brings together 30 young people and 7 group leaders/facilitators from Romania, Sweden, Slovakia, Türkiye, and North Macedonia to explore one of today’s most urgent European challenges: migration, asylum, and inclusion. Through this project we aim to clarify concepts often blurred in politics and media, such as refugee, asylum seeker, and migrant, and to build a stronger culture of empathy, solidarity, and fact-based understanding among young people. In youth work practice, this means creating a safe, interactive environment where participants can critically reflect, ask questions, and share experiences while strengthening their role as active European citizens. The exchange will take place in Romania in July 2026 and will use non-formal learning methods such as debates, storytelling, simulations, role-plays, and intercultural activities. Participants will also meet members of migrant communities and contribute to co-creating a digital booklet, “Myth vs Fact”, which will remain as an open-access educational resource for schools, youth centres, and NGOs across Europe. By the end of the project: At least 80% of participants will show improved understanding of migration and asylum, measured through pre- and post-project questionnaires. At least 70% will report stronger empathy and intercultural competences. Participants will co-create and disseminate the “Myth vs Fact” booklet, with a target of 500+ downloads/views within six months. At least 85% of participants will share their experiences online, reaching an audience of 1,000+ peers across all partner countries. Our objectives: To raise awareness among young people about the realities of asylum, refugees, and migration, clarifying their legal differences and dismantling the “buzzword” confusion created by politics and media. To foster empathy and intercultural competences through non-formal learning methods such as debates, storytelling, and simulations, encouraging participants to reflect on why people move and how inclusion is linked to EU values. To strengthen critical thinking and media literacy, enabling youth to identify misinformation, stereotypes, and polarised narratives about People on the move, and to replace them with fact-based understanding. To empower participants as active citizens who contribute to inclusive societies, transforming confusion into clarity, stereotypes into understanding, and indifference into active engagement.
