A growing trend among today’s youth is spending more time indoors, in front of screens, rather than outdoors, which leads to a sedentary lifestyle. This generation, often referred to as the “E-Generation,” has grown up in a digital environment, surrounded by technology, the internet, and social media. A recent study entitled “Situation Analysis – Screen Addiction, Mental Health (2025)” conducted by INSP (https://insp.gov.ro/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Analiza-situatie-Dependenta-Ecrane-SM-2025.pdf) shows that 46% of respondents experienced emotional or psychosocial problems (such as anxiety or depression) in the last 12 months, largely caused by excessive screen use. At the same time, the report reveals that 89% of those surveyed consider mental health to be just as important as physical health, which confirms a high level of awareness regarding the negative impact technology addiction can have on personal balance. This situation highlights the fact that the young generation is increasingly disconnected from physical activities and the natural environment, preferring a sedentary lifestyle in front of digital devices. In this context, it becomes essential to create opportunities for young people to rediscover the benefits of movement and life outdoors, through attractive, interactive, and accessible methods. The Roots in Motion project addresses this need by reintroducing young people to nature and encouraging their participation in traditional sports such as turca, meta, pétanque, archery, as well as outdoor games and hiking, combining physical activity with the rediscovery of cultural roots and community values. Project Objectives: O1. To increase the awareness of the 40 young people from Romania and Hungary on the importance of spending time disconnected from technology and outdoors, by practicing four traditional sports and non-formal outdoor activities, in order to improve mental and physical health. O2. To strengthen the capacity of the Scoala de Jocuri Association to plan and implement international youth projects, capitalizing on the experience gained through the exchange of good practices with Legramlat (Hungary), an accredited organization in the field of non-formal education. O3. To increase awareness among at least 150 young people from the two partner communities regarding the benefits of spending time in nature and practicing traditional sports, by promoting the cultural values transmitted through the project.
