With young people from our partner organizations, we have noticed that many do not have the opportunity to truly get to know other cultures and ways of life. Because of this, a “fear of the unknown” often arises, which quickly turns into misconceptions and discriminatory behavior. This is why we decided to create the project Village of Diversity. Our aim is to build a safe space where we can explore concepts such as discrimination, stereotypes, and tolerance together, and encourage dialogue about how diversity is experienced in different countries. The project is based on youth work, since young people are not just participants but also actively co-create the content – they lead workshops, prepare activities, and create results (videos, photos, a recipe book, cultural evenings, etc.). We believe that non-formal learning is the best way to address such an important topic in a relaxed and creative way. PROJECT OBJECTIVES: - to involve around 35 young people from 5 different countries (aged 15–30), - to raise awareness among young people about concepts such as discrimination, stereotypes, and prejudice, and to show their consequences, - to promote understanding and acceptance of diversity as a positive value, - to create a safe space for sharing personal stories and experiences related to discrimination, - to build new connections, friendships, and an international network of young people united through the idea of tolerance, - to develop creative forms of expression (video, photography, art, cooking) that young people can use to spread the project’s message further, - to strengthen the active participation of young people and encourage them to share their knowledge and experiences within their local communities.
