Objectives

Our project responds to a pressing and timely need: young people across Europe are growing up in increasingly divided societies, shaped by misinformation, polarisation, and tensions fuelled by social, political, and cultural differences. According to the Global Peace Index 2023, the world is experiencing a decline in peacefulness, while the 2022 Eurobarometer reports that over 60% of young Europeans are concerned about social division and extremism in their communities. At the same time, UN Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security emphasises the important role youth can play in peacebuilding - if they are empowered and supported. However, many youth workers today lack structured opportunities to strengthen their competences in conflict transformation and peace education. In our daily practice, we see youth workers struggling to de-escalate tensions, facilitate intercultural dialogue, or address hate speech in youth groups. Although they are motivated, they often lack practical tools, structured methodologies, and reflective spaces to develop these competences. Smaller organisations in particular have limited access to high-quality training in non-formal education methods focused on peacebuilding and nonviolent communication (NVC). This Erasmus+ training course directly addresses these needs by focusing on the professional development of youth workers. It aims to strengthen their capacity to use peacebuilding not only as a value framework but as a set of concrete educational tools in their daily work with young people. Through non-formal learning, youth workers will explore empathy, active listening, conflict transformation, intercultural dialogue, and inclusive community-building. NVC will serve as the core methodology, introduced as a structured four-step process (observations, feelings, needs, requests) that youth workers can apply immediately in practice to help young people express themselves constructively and listen with empathy. The training will provide a supportive and reflective environment where participants can exchange practices, engage in peer-to-peer learning, and test tools in practice. A strong emphasis will be placed on transfer to practice: each participant will be supported to design a concrete activity or tool that they can implement with their target groups after the mobility. The main needs we aim to address include: - A lack of structured training opportunities for youth workers on peacebuilding and conflict transformation. - Limited use of non-formal education methods to address empathy, tolerance, and dialogue in youth work. - The need for youth workers to develop competences that enable them to build safe and inclusive spaces for young people. Project objectives: - Strengthen conflict resolution competences of youth workers by training them in structured peacebuilding tools, including Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and conflict transformation methods they can apply in daily practice. - Develop facilitation and dialogue skills of youth workers to enable them to create safe and inclusive spaces for young people, where diverse perspectives can be expressed constructively. - Improve critical thinking and media literacy competences among youth workers, equipping them to guide young people in responding to misinformation and polarisation in their communities. - Improve intercultural competence and empathy skills of youth workers to foster understanding and cooperation across cultural, social, and generational divides. - Build capacity in non-formal education methodology, ensuring youth workers can design, deliver, and evaluate educational activities that transfer peacebuilding skills to young people. - Foster international cooperation and peer learning among youth workers, strengthening their ability to share practices, co-create resources, and apply European youth work standards in their organisations. We believe that peacebuilding begins with education and dialogue. By empowering youth workers, we create a multiplier effect: they in turn support young people to become active, empathetic, and capable changemakers. Our approach ensures that the competences acquired during the training are transferred into daily practice through follow-up activities, organisational integration, and community workshops. According to these objectives, it is highly relevant to apply to KA1 – mobility of youth workers. Our goals are based on using non-formal education to promote peacebuilding, intercultural dialogue, and democratic values, while inspiring young people towards self-realisation, cultural awareness, and respect for diversity. Through this project, we aim to shift the narrative from division to cooperation, from hostility to dialogue, and from passive observation to active engagement. By investing in the competences of youth workers, we are strengthening the foundations for resilient, inclusive, and harmonious communities across Europe.
